The anti-trans legislative crisis is still ongoing and the rights of trans people are under threat in the United States. Here's a thread of today's updates. 🧵
Indiana HB1041 has passed the senate committee, and is now going to the floor. This is an anti-trans sports bill that would mandate that school athletics be separated based on "biological sex". The bill defines such vaguely, likely relying on birth certificates.
Alabama HB170 has crossed over and been assigned to the Judiciary Committee. This bill would define any surgery performed for someone under the age of 19 to their "female" genitalia as FGM (Female Genital Mutilation), effectively banning bottom surgery for these people.
Alabama HB322 has passed committee with a favorable report. This bill is a bathroom bill for K-12 schools, requiring proof in the form of birth certificates for any use of bathrooms, locker rooms, etc.
Utah HB11 has been fast tracked through the house and into the senate. This is a particularly vile bill that would establish a committee that would create "baselines" for gender norms and require inspections of student athletes in order to participate.
Tennessee SB2696 has been been placed into committee with a hearing next week on the 23rd. This is a bill banning trans health-care for any minors, with the exception of intersex "corrections". It also cuts funding for orgs that pay for such and bans insurance coverage.
Finally, Tennessee HB2633 has also been placed into committee with a hearing next week, this time on the 22nd. This bill protects teachers who deliberately misgender and deadname their students from consequences, endorsing institutional cruelty.
It's not too late to stop these and other hateful bills. Please go to transformationsproject.org to learn about anti-trans bills in your state and to contact your representatives to #StepUpForTransKids!
