Mehmood Ali was born to Mumtaz Ali and Latifunnisa.

He was the second of eight children. His sister, Minoo Mumtaz, was a successful dancer and character actress in Bollywood movies. His youngest brother, Anwar Ali, is also an actor & produced movies like 'Khud-daar' and 'Kaash'
With overwhelming financial responsibilities, Mehmood began working at the age of eight.

His first role was as a child actor in 'Kismet' (1943), where he played a young Ashok Kumar.

Guru Dutt noticed him and gave him his first break, an act he never forgot.

Uma Devi was born on July 11, 1923, in a small village in Uttar Pradesh.

Reportedly, her parents and a brother were murdered over land disputes.

She was left in the care of her uncle, who did not believe in educating a girl. The actress taught herself to read & write Hindi.
She used to sing along to songs on the radio, hoping that she would be heard on it one day.

During her struggle, she got in touch with Naushad. She asked him to hear her out, or she'd throw herself in the ocean.

Seeing her determination & stunned by her voice, he signed her on.

Zohra's parents had 7 children & Zohra was their third child.

After graduation, she took a fascinating journey from Lahore to Europe.

Her aunt convinced her to enter Mary Wigman's ballet school in Dresden, Germany.

She was the first Indian woman to enter that school. During her stay, she met Uday Shankar, Ravi Shankar's the elder brother
Zohra Sehgal later toured several countries with Uday Shankar.

Zohra met her husband, the painter Kameshwar Sehgal, in an art centre founded by Uday Shankar in the Himalayan foothills.

Kameshwar was a Hindu and eight years younger than Zohra. They married in 1942.
