1. Free speech. Diversity of ideas. Toleration. Inclusion. Gender Studies cell of St. Stephen's College. Vande Mataram.
2. Interesting.
3. Quite a few ppl have reached out asking me as to what exactly transpired in this St. Stephen's episode. I will keep it factual with a few comments on the episode. Before I proceed, I would request everyone to be measured in their language given that students are involved.
4. On February 9th,students from the Leadership cell of St. Stephen's reached out to me inviting me for a talk/interactive session at the Leadership Conclave held between February 24th and 27th. I confirmed my availability for the evening of the 25th.
5. On February 22nd, I was informed by the Leadership cell that the Principal of St. Stephen's had granted permission for my session. After receipt of permission, students of the Leadership cell proceeded to put up posters of the event on the campus.
6. Given my previous experience with another Delhi-based minority institution which buckled under pressure from a group of students, I knew that grant of permission wasn't going to be the end of the matter and I conveyed as much to the students of the Leadership cell.
7. As expected, I received a call from students of the Leadership cell a few hours before the event that some students had objected to my being invited. I was informed that I would get a mail citing "logistical reasons" for the cancellation of the event, which I am yet to get.
8. I had no intention of bringing this up because (a) the episode involved students and (b) I had better things to do. I had another session with students of IIM Bangalore (@fii_iimb) later the same evening as part of a panel, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
9. Only later in d evening, just before my IIM B session, the Instagram posts of the Gender Studies Cell of St. Stephen's was brought to my attention. Since they had deemed it fit to come out in the open,I decided to help them by disseminating their posts thru my SM accounts.
10. I have nothing to say on the conduct of the Gender Studies Cell of St. Stephen's because their posts speak for them. Whether this warrants an introspection on their part is for them to decide. That said, I *don't* approve of uncivil language being used against them by anyone.
11. What makes me happy & hopeful is d fact that even in St.Stephen's there r students who wanted to engage with me on my ideas & positions. This takes a lot of courage given d atmospherics and peer pressure in certain institutions. So kudos to d Leadership cell of St. Stephen's.
12. Independent of d students of course,it is indeed unfortunate that St. Stephen's as an institution cud'nt stand by its decision to greenlight my session.I guess this underscores a larger problem that plagues such institutions across d country-selective support for free speech.
13. What also concerns me is d lack of originality in certain positions taken by such groups & d disturbing trend among students to treat opinions as substitutes for logic, reason, knowledge, dialogue and debate, all of which require the confidence to engage with opposing views.
14. As for d predictable jibes about my arguments in d Marital Rape petition- 1. as an arguing counsel I am discharging my mandate & 2. my written submissions will make it abundantly clear as to d position taken bcoz a binary treatment using labels doesn't do justice to d issue.
15.Not to generalise, but I have found science & management institutions/departments much more open to debate & engagement than d humanities departments who, ironically, see themselves as champions of free speech and expression. That misplaced sense of hubris needs to be challenged.
16. Finally,d St. Stephen's episode is a clear sign of a tectonic churn taking place on campuses across d country.Regardless of my views,I welcome this churn & *will* support it to d hilt.I thank d Gender Studies Cell of St. Stephen's for enabling this.Jai Shri Ram.Vande Mataram.

1. Since October of last year, historian Dr. @vikramsampath has been subjected to a co-ordinated witch-hunt for merely presenting an evidence-based picture of Veer Savarkar, which he has the right to. It is important to understand the motivations behind the attacks on him.
2. Dr. Sampath's scholarship effectively upsets two Leftist myths - that the Left is the sole repository of scholarship and intellectualism, and that they alone shall decide for the rest of us as to who can be celebrated as icons. Thought Control is the end goal of the Left.
3. Unlike d partisan "scholarship" of d Left,Dr. Sampath's work is not a eulogy of Savarkar, but a dispassionate presentation of facts to bust popular myths. But since he has dared to undo the manufactured myths, he has upset some very powerful individuals, groups and interests.

1. There is absolutely no substitute for Sanatana Dharma when it comes to spirituality, its understanding of consciousness and the essence of the human condition. The sheer range of options available to look inward depending on one's tendencies is astounding.
2. "Prayer" is merely the starting point in Sanatana Dharma. The layers & levels beyond that boggle d mind as to both the longevity & sagacity of this Civilisation which places such emphasis on spirituality. This is d knowledge that Dharma seeks to preserve, this is beejaraksha.
3. Given the attempts over millenia to unpack the layers of consciousness, and so that subsequent generations do not reinvent the wheel, the concept of a Sampradaya was put in place which roughly translates to tradition, whose strength is the fact that it has been time-tested.

1. I have no issues whatsoever wid ppl frm any side having issues wid wat I stand for or wat they think I stand for.Where I draw d line is on terms of engagement, platform for engagement & civility in engagement.I don't equate passionate yet civil disagreement wid personal malice.
2.I think SM in general & Twitter in particular encourages a certain degree of brashness of which I too have been guilty often. It helps to realise that there is life outside of Twitter & life is unpredictable.U never know who you might end up meeting under what circumstance.
3. Especially if you happen to be in your late teens and early twenties, do not let social media encourage a false sense of bravado. You have a life ahead of you and not everyone can be expected to be accommodative of brash behaviour. Find civil ways of expressing disagreement.

1. Mathams and Adheenams operate differently in Tamil Nadu. So to pontificate to the @KanchiMatham is to target this great institution and to reinforce Dravidianist anti-Brahmin vitriol.
2. The entire point of the opposition to the Dravidianist ideology is its targeting of Brahmins and misrepresentation of Mathams. Birth-based selection and training happens across the board in Mathams and Adheenams.
3. So if you don't have the guts to talk about non-Brahmin institutions, first grow a spine and find your voice to speak up even with respect to such institutions.

1. So the farm laws have been repealed and predictably, the reactions to it have become the test of fidelity/loyalty/fealty to the dispensation. Even legitimate expressions of disappointment lead to the same done to the death question- so will you vote for the opposition?!
2.If d constituents of a dispensation do not express their disappointment, who will? Not every expression of disappointment is a litmus test of ideological allegiance. In any case, apart frm ideological leanings,d reality of this country today is d absence of a credible alternative.
3. Precisely becoz there is no credible alternative to the current dispensation at the Centre, the constituents themselves have a duty to criticise where criticism is warranted, just as credit has been given where it is due. After all, what is the value of a shill's opinion?

1. Ever since the release of my book #IndiaThatisBharat and its positive reception,a few handles have increased their direct & sly attacks on me, which I think is a back-handed compliment. Their latest tirade rides on the back of my tweets from 2015 on the subject of caste.
2.Apparently I am supposed to b embarrassed that my views on caste have evolved. That my views evolved significantly after I took up d Sabarimala case is something I have myself stated at least on 2 occasions, once in a discussion wid @UnSubtleDesi & again in my recent CH session.
3. Here's d link to my discussion wid @UnSubtleDesi & @pratyasharath held last year during d lockdown where d specific subject was the tug of war between the so-called "trads" & "Raytas". To the trawlers,at 15.33,I specifically discuss my tweets of 2015 -
