It's a huge step & will have some negative consequences for various people, institutions, & countries. Yesterday I urged patience to see if harsher actions would be taken, & I was right (in this matter.)
My source for that belief is this guy, who I've been following for some time and esp. in this situation affecting Ukraine and the other democratic countries of the world.
Every question you have about it is answered somewhere on his youtube channel:
Good to see in Biden's statements that he is *listening* to America's European allies and joining them in their responses to Russian aggression as much as he can at this time. Who knows what the future holds.
I have written many times about the delay in entering WWI & WWII.
As a history buff concerning WWI and WWII I have studied extensively the reasons why the US delayed full entry into both wars.
The US had to learn then re-learn the lesson that collective security is the only way to achieve lasting peace.
In 1949, NATO was established.
NATO is one of the only postwar multilateral institutions that is still functioning as intended, to this day.
The UN is pretty compromised, but it's still better having a UN than not. And it's better than the League of Nations was.
Watching a free country be invaded by a tyrant is painful. But what makes it even worse is that the sacrifices we made in WWII and the lessons we learned then, were forgotten about.
The slogan of the 1939-41 isolationists was "America First."
I did not know this in 2016 when I believed that on balance a Republican presidency would be good for the US at that time. I was wrong. And I hold Republicans responsible for enabling, and ignoring the dangers of, the candidate they nominated.
From mid 2017 I could see the brainwashing of the far right base within TFG's cult of personality increasing in strength and number. I believed that denouncing them would be sufficient to fulfil my moral responsibility. I was wrong on that, too. I should have denounced all of it.
In about December 2020 I realized exec branch pandemic malpractice had cost hundreds of thousands of lives in the US. That was a sickening realization.
Then in early to mid 2021 I realized TFG, not Biden, had caused the tragedy in Afghanistan. More mass deaths.
Then:
As Putin's journey to destroying Ukraine progressed in late 2021, I started to realize how much culpability rests with not just TFG but with every current Republican leader and media pundit.
The preventable death toll from Covid, the Taliban, & invading Ukraine will be huge.
The US eventually had to enter WWI and WWII because of it's own national security interest. The country is big and strong, but it has an extremely long coastline and land borders. Ocean shipping was the main reason then, and it's still a factor now.
The delays cost US lives.
If the US had entered each of those wars earlier, then it would have been more effective, sooner, and thereby would have saved many American lives, and non-human resources too.
It took 2 years to get ready for D-Day.
This is why I support having a strong military defense (in my country and yours.) And the ability to ramp up the mass production of materiel. Kudos to Rosie the Riveter and everyone like her.
Sanctioning Putin personally is a huge step, that is not without downsides for us all.
All the signs I can see point to the conclusion that President Biden is not just a good leader in this moment, he could end up being remembered by history as an excellent leader in it.
His foreign policy experience is massive.
In 2020, I was wrong about Biden. But I said let's give him a chance, to see how good he will be in the job.
IMO, the criticisms of him are unwarranted. He has the toughest job of any president since Lincoln. I am so thankful he's in the WH right now.

Source: For my assertion that Hitler was bad not mad, right to the end. It's vital to challenge this narrative.
And, TIKhistory is an exceptionally useful & relevant YT channel on Europe & RU. About half his videos are directly relevant to this war.
I was perplexed by Putin calling the Ukraine government Nazis and drug addicts. Putin's behavior is far closer to that of the actual Nazis than just about every world leader. (Assad springs to mind as a notable exception.) So he's projecting. Is he also projecting about drugs?
Thread: Social media platforms that allow hoaxes to trend are despicable.
HM Queen Elizabeth of the UK and her other realms (eg NZ), is alive and following doctor's orders to rest.
Whenever she eventually dies, go to bbc.com for the actual truth about it.
Also, it's really weird when ppl refer to the Queen as Queen Elizabeth. It's not incorrect, I know she's not the only (actual, lawful) Queen in the world, but she's always referred to as the Queen here.
"The Queen" will also be how we refer to Queen Camilla & Queen Catherine.
No, Twitter, this headline doesn't fix the problem.
I suggest, at the top of the list, for at least 12 hours, you should say:
"Queen Elizabeth is alive. Reports of her death at this time are a hoax."
We had to watch this happening for years with Prince Philip.
Ukrainian President Zelensky's comments tonight after Moscow unlawfully recognized Donetsk and Luhansk were stirring and inspiring.🕊️ 🇺🇦
Read an English translation below:
"There are no reasons for your sleepless night. We are on our land, we are not afraid of anyone or anything and we will not give anything to anyone. It’s not February 2014, but February 2022. We are sure of that.
"Recognition of the independence of the occupied areas of Donbass may mean a unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements. Ukraine's internationally recognized borders will remain the same despite Russia's actions. We intend to solve everything diplomatically.
The issue is both political and personal. I survived a series of events over several decades and am now in a position to offer insights to others. The same healing process is directly relevant to world politics, too.

Thread: Updates on the marvelous #PlatinumJubilee year of my head of state, HM the Queen.
I've written many threads in recent years about the shenanigans of certain recalcitrant family members. This time I bring concerning news of potential exposure to Covid.😟
Obviously I send get well soon wishes for Charles (and Camilla, who is likely to also test positive.)
I'm fiercely loyal the Queen, and Charles, and William. And their consorts were and are incredible, loved, and respected people too.
That color photo above is recent and was released to mark the anniversary of 70 years on the throne, on February 6 this year.
HM is thriving like never before, and she turns 96 on April 21, 2022. The Queen's Birthday celebrations in June each year are timed for summer.
If I know someone has committed or is committing a crime, and I choose asking them nicely not to, instead of reporting it to law enforcement, I would be complicit in that crime.
Yet this is the narrative Ivanka Trump is trying to sell people. That she did all she could.
Everyone in the administration who had knowledge of what the defeated former president planned and carried out that day had a duty to report it *at the time* and to *fully* and voluntarily cooperate with any and all law enforcement and Congressional investigative bodies.
