85.04/ Off the cuff, I described an obscurantist scholar who has stymied me in the past as having the intellect of a stack of Lego bricks that's one brick wide and 20 tall.
You know the type: very good at one specific yet desirable skill yet thinks he's brilliant at everything.
85.05/ Thank God the Biden admin. is trying to protect trans kids and their families in TX. This plus UKR has been weighing heavily on me for days.
85.07/ This is from earlier this week. White collar crime is insidious to society and needs to be seen with the gravity of the damage it causes. Violent vs financial crime reminds me of individual vs systemic forces, it's that impactful.
85.12/ I'm seeing weird takes about how nuclear war is "survivable." Cut that nonsense out. They always think they'll be the guy in the bunker with canned food.
I guarantee those hot-takers are the same people complaining about wearing masks right now.
85.13/ Behold: the mercenary grubbiness of bothsidesism in its reflexive, petty form.
NYT: "It's wrong because research is hard, why bother?"
85.15/ I'm seeing now that the "pivot to video" madness has become "pivot to podcast" for making, ugh, cOnTeNt. It's like how sports channels are now two dudes yelling at each other. It's cheap, easy to make, and requires no editing. It betrays a subtle contempt; please stop.
85.16/ This is my kind of sports story. Does it have aggressive moose? Yes. Yes it does. espn.com/espn/story/_/i…
85.17/ Arriving last night from @Eichlers, a megillah case so my son can run around town reading for people on Purim. Look at the size of the box and bubble wrap compared to the case! Better safe than sorry, eh?
85.18/ On one hand, RUS launching an imperial war of conquest against a democratic neighbor does feel like a different category from other recent wars, OTOH I want to distance myself from the bigots as seen in this thread. The price of a polarized time.
85.19/ Yup. Anyone calling for a "NFZ" is revealing themselves to be unfit to comment, not only about this issue but any issue (until they show they've repented). NFZ = war; and anyone who casually wants war is either evil or a negligent ignoramus.
85.20/ I have observed vanity under the sun; people who use social justice and/or academic phrases like they were a magical incantation in a vain attempt to allow their selfish and cruel goals to triumph over those who want charity and compassion. chabad.org/library/bible_…
85.22/ I'm having extraordinarily bad internet and computer trouble right now (things were inoperable for a bit) so I'm ending this thread now. #PrayForUkraine and stay safe everyone. #ShabbatShalom
84.02/ #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight put off a night because of social obligations. Monday is a legal holiday so we will hopefully have movie night tomorrow night.
84.03/ Couldn't be happier, or prouder, as a #Steelers fan to see they hired Brian Flores to be a senior coach. The team gets top notch talent and they take an anti-racist stand. And, as seen below, it earns respect from players:
83.03/ For #PurimKatan I've introduced a new custom: I give out mini ("fun size") candy bars for half-mishloach manot. This year I tested it out with my kids and wouldn't you know it, they approved. Next year, the world!
58a.2/ It's been so long, that I forgot my methodology. In addition to the thread, I need to post the first Tweet in the thread (especially if the threaders go kaput)
82.02/ #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight continues, an all-timer, a cornerstone of the nerd canon, one of the greatest cultural touchstones of comedy, "Monty Python's Holy Grail"
81.02/ #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight continues. Another all-time favorite: "Big Trouble in Little China"
81.03/ For #CINvsKC, naturally I would like the Bengals to lose and - if it's not too much to ask - by more than 21 so the Steelers playoff loss doesn't look quite as terrible as it did (at least on paper)
1/ Yesterday's #NFL games, where two 1 seeds fell to a 4 & 6 seed, were revenge for all the whiny pundits saying Wild Card weekend was a bust because of all the blowouts. In three games the 49ers beat the Rams, Cowboys and Packers. This is why sports is fun!
2/ And while the Cowboys & Patriots getting blown out in the first round is fun, toppling 1 seeds is even better. Here's a thread with some of my favorite reactions to yesterday's games, especially all the epic dunks on Aaron "Meth Hobo" Rogers.
3/ The Bengals are a division rival & on principle I want them to lose but if they win, it will confirm why div. winners are significant. My #NYM NL East div. was mocked for being soft but our rival ATL won the World Series. My #Steelers rival doing the same would be poetic.
