Yes. There is a lot of space between Madu and Putin. But that’s where it starts. When corruption is ignored and permitted. When the corrupt act with impunity, they become bolder and crave more power.

When officials abuse their power to escape consequences for their unethical behaviour, it is a slap in the face of democracy and the institution of rule of law.
By reassigning Madu to another cabinet post, Kenney is thumbing his nose at rule of law in Alberta.

The truck convoy participants deemed themselves exempt from provincial and federal rule of law and the public health mandates made by legitimate governments.
They were willing to overthrow the federal government to establish that precedent.

All the truck convoy had to do was ask Kenney to establish that precedent for them. Which he has complied with their demands, several times. Madu’s corruption being the most egregious example.
It drives me nuts watching the Alberta and Canadian public just recoil in defeat rather than demand justice. Especially with the inspired resistance of Ukrainian civilians who understand what’s at stake.

We don’t need to pick up arms or throw Molotov cocktails at those exacerbating corruption. But we can’t wait until that’s the only defence we have left either.
