Happening now: press conference with #Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Police Chief Troy Finner on the annual "March on Crime." #Texas#Crime
Turner is asked about the ordinance he proposed regarding bail setting. Turner says it's still in the works.
(Not sure city or county has authority to do this- some think it's only #txlege)
When asked about the officers who are supposed to be taking overtime to add 125 patrols per day, Finner says he thinks they're doing "pretty good," but says there's some who've called in " sick and whatnot."
Turner also pointed to the Texas Constitutional carry law as a cause of rising crime. The new law did not take effect until September 1, 2021, while violent crime, specifically homicide, has been on the rise in Houston since at least 2019.
Happening now: #Houston City Council considering contract for city redistricting issues with law firm of #txlege Sen. Royce West. Council member @MikeKnox1Hou is requesting a 1 week delay to review.

The elections administrator's salary was slated to be $190k, appointment was given to a former staffer for State Sen. Sylvia Garcia who had run unsuccessfully for Houston City Council, but had not run elections previously.
Harris County District Attorney says the suspect identified and charged is Oscar Rosales. Suspect is at large. Two of Rosales' family members have been charged with tampering with evidence.
