Happening now: #Houston City Council considering contract for city redistricting issues with law firm of #txlege Sen. Royce West. Council member @MikeKnox1Hou is requesting a 1 week delay to review.
@MikeKnox1Hou Now @AbbieKamin is saying there are many lawyers in #txlege & it's not unusual for them to be hired for such contracts.
Council supports Mayor Sylvester Turner and votes down Knox's motion to delay for review.
West is the "sub," Turner says, "we don't pick the sub." Contract is roughly $1.6 million, West will get about $400k. #Houston #Texas
Knox notes that Mayor Turner has worked with West for 26 years in the #txlege
Expresses concern over the appearance of cronyism- says it's "overwhelming and distasteful."
