The clean up at the Eastern Suburbs Football Club has been nothing short of amazing.

What a wonderful group of people.

#bneflood
This is how the club went in the floods 👇
And here’s how they were this arvo 👇💪❤️
Today I told them that if elected an @AlboMP Albanese Labor government will put $400k towards making the club flood-resilient and making sure this important community facility remains strong 💪
The clean up is continuing.
But many hands are making lighter work.
Again, thanks to everyone across our region who has shown incredible community spirit in the aftermath of the floods.

Some facts about dams for @couriermail

Labor doesn’t oppose dams.

The Libs and Nats have been in office for almost a decade. They said they would build 100 dams. Guess how many they’ve opened?
Scottsdale Irrigation System, in Tassie, a project that commenced its planning under Labor, has a small dam.

That is the only dam that has been commissioned under the current government, in their near-decade.

Just the one. Not 100.
Their signature dam policy was the National Water Infrastructure Loan Facility that wrote 50 press releases but zero loans.

They quietly put that $2 billion scheme out of its misery in 2020.

It was a massive public policy failure.

Good morning everyone.
I'm sure you're checking the BOM alerts and/or the app.
They're saying there were some renewed river and creek rises earlier yesterday with the storms.
.../
And they're expecting less rain today, which is terrific, but with the river and creeks being so swollen, additional rain can still contribute to river/creek rises.
.../
They're saying there will be a minor flood peak - 2.25 m - today around midday, and then a few more minor flood peaks to come.

We're also still covered by the new 'flood watch' so keep checking the BOM.

With the revelations and allegations of the past few weeks it has never been clearer that we need women in politics. Not just a few, but a critical mass.

../
Political culture is affected by the makeup of the parliament, the staffing corps, and the press gallery, and beyond that into party structures and activism.
Penny Wong is an example of a woman in leadership who is backed in by the fact of having a shadow cabinet & caucus that’s half women. This affects culture & context, and all of our leaders, male and female.

Here’s some of Penny’s words from yesterday.

The Auditor-General’s report into strategic water entitlements procurement came out today.

This is the report that was prompted by multiple calls for an investigation into, among other things, an $80 million purchase of water entitlements from a company that had links to Coalition MP and Minister Angus Taylor.
The government had switched from an “open tender” to a “limited tender” process. The Auditor-General’s report found that the department did not consistently apply approved policy, planning and guidance to the assessment of all limited tender procurements.

Memo to the Aus: it’s possible to be working-class & also think being gay shouldn’t stop a person from getting married.

Capricornia, Dawson, Herbert & Leichhardt all voted yes for marriage equality.

That’s not an obsession with “identity politics,” it’s just decency.
I grew up in 3-bed besser block house in Cairns. I was the first in my family to finish high school, let alone go to uni.

Nowadays, my mum’s a teachers aide and my dad’s a hospital wardie.

I’ve had opportunities in my life previously unthinkable to working class kids like me.
I’ve had those opportunities because of Labor governments’ reforms.

Politics is relentlessly material for me. Who gets to get an education. Who gets good healthcare. Who gets to retire comfortably, not in poverty.

Caring about fairness means caring about fairness for everyone.

Look, if you’re feeling self-satisfied because you preselected on merit, and not using quotas, try this simple method of checking the success of your merit-based processes.
First, check your assumptions. Have you assumed women have as much merit as men? If no, perhaps revisit your assumptions.
If you assume that women have as much merit as men, then that implies that if your preselections were conducted according to merit exclusively, around half the people preselected would be women.
