Now as no call-in line Jan 6 trial of Guy Reffitt ends, now a detention hearing - by phone - on Matthew Beddingfield. His lawyer says, "He didn't mention Trump, he didn't wear a MAGA hat." Judge Faruqui drilling down. Inner City Press will live tweet, thread below
Judge Faruqui: So Mr. Beddingfield was 20, he's 21 now. But he has a prior record, and was on social media saying things that were very troubling. I don't want to get into the First Amendment issue, using what he says doesn't chill, he already said it
Judge Faruqui is moving toward releasing Beddingfield to the custody of his grandfather, who has no cell phone.
Judge Faruqui: I like that. We'd have a lot less trouble these days if there were more people like you.
Judge Faruqui: Can you take off the bedroom door so your grandson doesn't have any sense of privacy?
Grandpa: Yes.
Judge Faruqui: You'll have to be a full time jail custodian. You'd have to call his pre-trial services officer.
Now to you, Mr Beddingfield [grandson] if you violate the conditions, the other judges in this courthouse will ask me, Why did you release him...
Judge Faruqui: So I will release him, as long as he doesn't travel to DC... and doesn't have a bedroom door.
Again: why was there no call-in line for Reffitt trial? The Jan 6 trials coming up in DDC should have such public access lines, as do proceedings like this

Update: it's 3:10 pm and Judge Liman takes the bench to say, There are new jurors in the room.
He asked them if any Yes answers to the questions.
Those who say yes, he tells "I will see you at the sidebar."
This could take a while.
Update: it's 3:50 and Judge Liman re-takes the bench to say that the following [prospective] jurors are excused: 2, 20, 61, 64, 65 and 71. And 73-100 won't be needed - they're to go out into the hall and get further instructions [to go wait in another case]

Counsel: So they were discussing using Flint River water? Or is that comparing apples to oranges?
Objection as to form! I don't know what the oranges are.
Counsel: Did it relate to the Flint River or Lake Huron?
Witness: They do no compare: apples to oranges.
