Compiled this 🧵 to give a sense of context to many who were very young in early '90s.

Per some accounts the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of then HM - Mufti Sayeed, was a staged drama as the latter was a sympathizer of JKLF terrorists.

It was mid '80s and I was posted in Gujarat and as it so happened, 2 of my house mates were from J & K. They used to tell that the Kashmiri Muslims were always siding with Pakistan and used to despise KPs.

They would many instances to drive home the point that one day there was a distinct possibility of Kashmir becoming an independent nation or worse still becoming part of Pakistan. This much before 1990.

Subsequently lot of water has flown under many a bridges but the position of Governments in Center and State has been one of turning a blind eye to what happened in Kashmir.

Those who would like to know more, I would invite them to read the following notes of Late Sh. Jagmohan to Rajiv Gandhi.

Jagmohan writes: "Your senior party men like Shiv Shankar and N.K.P. Salve have, apparently at your behest, been using the forum of Parliament for building

an atmosphere of prejudice against me. The former raked up a fourteen-year old incident of Turkman Gate and the latter a press interview, an interview that I never gave, to hurl a barrage of accusations of communalism against my person. "
