The entire #KetanjiBrownJacksonHearing has been performance art at a time when #SCOTUS public approval ratings are at an all time low. (SCOTUS public approval is lower than after Bush v Gore 😬). It's bread an circuses to give the court a patina of legitimacy.
The process is broken, Gorsuch, Barrett and Kavanagh arguably should not be on the bench. They are only there through the machinations of a GOP Senate leadership that was obsessed with 1) Undermining Obama 2) Ensuring Trump remained in office should his 2020 lawsuits get that far
Even the most casual American voters saw the GOP senate steal a seat from Obama. Millions watched as Kavanagh screamed and pouted to avoid answering questions about his finances, alleged sexual assaults (there were more than 1) and writings on torture during the Bush years
If getting on SCOTUS is just a numbers game in the Senate then why have hearings at all? If the Senate is not obligated to respect elections, the president's nomination or ANY criteria for qualifications then what were we truly watching for the last few days?
A public flogging
Judge Thomas famously called his confirmation hearing "A high tech lynching of an uppity black man". It was a seminal moment meant to embarrass white Democrats many of which's racial politics didn't give them the moral highground to question Thomas's own backwards positions
It was a "lynching" because Hill's testimony put Thomas confirmation in doubt. That isn't the case w/ #KetanjiBrownJackson . Not one Senator's vote was up for grabs. So racist senators just gave her a public flogging to reinforce the racial order before her inevitable rise
#KetanjiBrownJackson was questioned by GOP Senators who are actively abetting the #Jan6thInsurrection & used witnesses who refuse to acknowledge the 20 election. She will join a SCOTUS w/ Clarence Thomas who's been a walking conflict of interest for years. How is this credible?
So while symbolically she is a shining star the entire process temains broken just one Senate death, or election away from again rendering SCOTUS a weakened branch subject to the whims of insurrectionists in the Senate

#TheBatman is one of the most talked about and overanalyzed heros in American pop culture. That's why he's had over a dozen films - But that longevity has been earned by updating the character for each generation. That doesn't happen in #TheBatman
Batman is not a right wing fascist nor is he a liberal fighting against the privileged elite. But in a world where millions protested police brutality and racism a rich white guy who beats up random mostly brown folks needs to address that
You think #DefundthePolice is a bad message ? (Btw almost no credible Dems run on that slogan) take a look at how #FundthePolice plays w/ young black voters who are crucial in the midterms but are already skeptical of this administration #SOTU22
Biden's approval rating is under 40%. His approval w/ Black voters, the CORE Democratic constituency is in the 60's/70's. What part of that #SOTU was targeted to appeal to black voters? What black voter was moved from apathy to activism?
Today @RichelleCarey did an extensive thread on how for the first time in 18 years of voting in TX suddenly her registration was canceled. What part of the #SOTU gives hope to voters facing that issue around the country ?
Biden's success in placing black women on the federal bench is laudable, as is his pledge to put a black woman on SCOTUS. However those moves don't address the larger issues the country faces in terms of direct threats to Democracy from the MAGA covering GOP - short thread
There is consistent theme in some Democratic circles that Biden doesn't get enough credit for what he's done and he's hamstrung by Sinema and Manchin. Biden can both do good things AND be vastly underperforming on critical issues. Today's GA polls tell that story
The top issue for the core constituency of the Democratic Party is criminal justice reform. The president has failed symbolically and practically on that issue. Appointing black women to judgeships doesn't change that. Nor does it improve his flagging numbers with black voters
COVID infection rates have dropped since the December holiday season but are still higher in many areas than last fall. But institutions from schools to businesses have essentially told workers "So what" go back and risk your long term health and potentially worse
This is driven by a naive desire to return to "normal" even as the Omicron Variant has become prevalent. Of the over 20 people I know personally who've contracted COVID in the last month all of them are vaccinated and most were boosted and range from 16 to 52
Privately people are simply making thier own rules up because thier employers don't care and honestly the crisis in confidence in authorities and employers is likely at an all time low. Who can trust a boss that puts them at risk unnecessarily?
I'll believe it when I see it. There are a few misconceptions about why there haven't been any black majority owners in the #NFL - A short thread on why it hasn't happened before....
While the process of #NFL ownership can be a bit murky here are the main requirements. 1. You have to have between 30-40% of the team value up front AND be able to buy out the next 2 largest investors. Considering the average team is about 3 billion that's a lot of liquid income
In most cases your ownership group can't be more than 24 people, which means the price of buying out anyone who backs out of the deal is immense
