I endorse this msg, although I'm not a liberal. I'm a moderate conservative standing with everyone who is pro-democracy and wants the USA to resume its long path toward freedom for ALL, despite the far right capture of the Republican party.
The past two years or so in US politics have shown me that it's the right wingers whose feelings are fragile, lol.
What a bunch of crybaby sore losers.
And they are extremely gullible, too.
I just heard today that the next CPAC will be held in Hungary, with authoritarian dictator Viktor Orban as keynote speaker.
They want to undermine NATO from the inside. Too bad, losers. The rest of NATO won't let that happen.
Like, do these useful idiots for Putin even understand that mass graves and other clear signs of crimes against humanity and genocide were found in Ukraine in recent days?
Pro democracy folk have fought too hard for too long to let this stand.
The words #NeverForget#NeverAgain are associated with Holocaust remembrance and the many worldwide actions trying to prevent a repeat.
Seeing a new genocide always makes my heart sink. But then I realize it's another teachable moment. A lot of people need to learn, and fast.
There absolutely is a link between the anti-democratic ideology expressed on Facebook by that one or two extended family members we all have, and the murder of thousands of innocent civilians in Ukraine right now.
It's all connected. From anti-vaxxers to Putin sympathizers.
I prefer being around liberals, progressives, and fellow ex-gop conservatives. With anyone who is pro-democracy and anti-autocracy. With anyone who gives a damn about innocents in Ukraine.
The UK No. 1 single "If you tolerate this, your children will be next" by Welsh band Manic Street Preachers was inspired by volunteers who came from everywhere to help defend innocents from fascists in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). They lost, & the regime lasted until 1977.
The similarities between 1930s Europe and 2020s Europe seem to grow stronger by the day.
It's very simple though, and it's time to pick a side. Pro-democracy people everywhere need to lift our game and fight harder, in the law-abiding way that most of us do.
And we need to vote for those parties and governments who lean more toward democracy than their opponents do.
The US is the most important country with national elections this year.
Democrats need your vote. Please #VoteBlueIn22 down the whole ballot, & help get out the vote.
I totally oppose the economic policies of the left. But if I can prioritize the saving of lives, the use of proven public health measures, the valuing of science, and democracy itself, anyone can. I will vote left in NZ.
In the US I'd be indy purple with the blue wave:💜🌊
Right wing parties get the balance wrong as we respond to the pandemic. They put the wants of (some) business owners before the need to save lives and minimize pandemic harms.
The economy will recover, it always does. But those lives aren't coming back.
Every policy decision by governments around the world should take into account the pandemic and Russia's war against Ukraine.
The differences between the left and right are clearer than I've ever seen them. It is primarily the left who show courage, morality, and patriotism.
I hope that one day we can return to a situation where voters could weigh the pros and cons of each side, without having to rule out one side because they do not support democracy and a rules-based world.
Until then, I know where I belong.

Thread: Coverage of Russia's war crimes in Ukraine.
TW/CW: Disturbing, violent content
I you, like me, care deeply about the innocent civilians being targeted, but are unable to view or listen to disturbing material, then this thread is for you.
Watching the above video is optional, of course. I have tried to avoid seeing or hearing such content during this war, but sometimes I carefully venture in to a video because I want the information.
The video is less disturbing than others I've seen, but that's a low bar.
My content warning applies to the video up until 4m35s, when a different news story is covered. That part is about the great service of the US and Polish military, who have been carrying out joint exercises less than 100 miles from the Poland:Ukraine border. Encouraging to see.
As a proudly ex-maga, ex-gop #NeverTrump#Ahoy! af conservative, IMO today's statements by the (soundly) defeated former president about the butcher of Mariupol who obviously cannot remain in office,
are literal treason against the USA.
Cult 45 members need to open their eyes.
When I was supporting T**** in 2016 some of the people in my life broke ties with me and refused to discuss why.
Nowadays I can understand why they did this. Since leaving the cult on 1/6, I've realized how it feels to objectively assess his political and business record...
and then have some folk in your life insist that 2+2=5, up is down, wrong is right, and lies are truth.
Even so, I didn't ditch anyone. They broke ties with me. I've had irl friends from both the left & the (far) right cancel me, lol.
I was never a big fan of Sen Cory Booker, but next time he runs for president, he's going to be my first choice. This speech is so eloquent, so compelling, that it should be watched by every democracy-loving person in the world.
That's the fullest version of Booker's speech I could find, so if you know of a longer version please link it below (and check first that someone hasn't done so already.)
There's also this excellent discussion:
Cory Booker's speech has motivated me to work even harder to speak up for, or offer support to, anyone treated differently bc they are Black, a POC, female, LGBTQ+, young, old, disabled, or part of any group visible or invisible that is marginalized by immutable characteristics.
Thread: International Women's Day 2022, US, & Ukraine.
Far right fascists (aka today's GQP) like chiming in to say female privilege is alive and well in the law requiring (almost) all men aged 18-25 to be registered for the draft, should one be needed.
Current US admin policy is to do all it can to avoid needing to have boots on the ground in Europe and elsewhere.
Since 1/24/22 the global security situation has worsened. If things get to a certain point, the US may need to bring back the draft.
It's mistake to exclusively think of the wars the US has been involved in since 1945, especially Vietnam. I see far greater parallels between our current crisis and 1939-45.
In both cases, none of the allied countries were sufficiently ready to defend ourselves and win the war.
I am able to sleep at night because I believe RU military personnel between Putin and whoever would actually fire a nuclear weapon are planning to stop that happening.
US Army General Mark Milley ensured the same kind of safety in the last insane days of TFG's presidency.
To understand the current Russian war against Ukraine (and quite frankly, the rest of us) it helps to understand the period before and during WWII.
The British SOE and Partisans in European countries come to mind:
