1/ THREAD: Body Language Analysis No. 4643: Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, lying about Russia's reasons for withdrawing from Kyiv

2/ Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesperson, lies multiple times during this short video (multiple additional lies are also exhibited during the complete interview).One particular segment and the accompanying lies are analyzed here — with emphasis on the nonverbal tells.

3/At 0:12 mark, Peskov, says, "Ahhh, now about two regions, Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. Ahhh, so, actually the troops were really withdrawn from that region [sic] as an act of a GOOD will — during the negotiations between two delegations — Russian and Ukrainian Delegation [sic]."

4/Although it's not an absolute, statistically (statement analysis), use of the word, "actually" is often either a signal of deception or a filler word in the context of stalling, exaggeration, manipulation, or anxiety (which are all also associated with, or forms of, deception).

5/This specific deception statement analysis correlation (use of "actually") is particularly true when the word is used at the beginning of a sentence. Here, it's used at the beginning of the sentence after 2 filler words, "Ahhh" & "so" (see below for contempt-disgust reference).

6/ If Peskov was telling the truth, his statement wouldn't be surprising or ironic and thus, wouldn't need the label of "actually".

7/ Just prior to saying, "actually", Peskov says, "so" ("so, actually the troops were really withdrawn from that region"). As he says, "so", Peskov displays a disgust-contempt amalgam expression.

8/ Peskov displays another contempt-digust amalgam as he says the syllable "...DRAWN" ("withDRAWN"). Notice his volume when he speaks the syllable, DRAWN is louder *as he displays contempt-disgust. The same was true with the previous example ("SO"), but somewhat less.

9/ Microexpressions, when displayed during speech, tend to be coupled with louder volume as well as atypical syllabic-vocal emphasis.

10/ Just after Peskov says, "good" ("goodwill"), he then rocks his torso-head forward. Taken in isolation, this momentary volume increase along with the forward motion are a form of emphasis.

11/ Notice, however, these aren't simultaneous acts. This non-simultaneity is suspicious. The forward rocking should be simultaneous with the syllable/word "good" if his thought-emotion was honest.

12/ Similar to the prior use of "actually", this volume and forward motion are overcompensation. The suspicion becomes more warranted with Peskov's ensuing facial expression.

13/ Just after Peskov, rocks forward, (just after he says, "goodwill"), he displays a smile — but crucially, this is a mouth smile only with only a trace of an eye component — thus it is highly suspicious for a feigned smile or a highly suppressed smile.

14/ Why are you smiling/false smiling/suppressing smiling when speaking about a war and negotiations to end that war, Peskov? This should be our immediate question.

A smile has no place in this context (that is, in the non-pathologic mind).

15/ Next, while still with a component of a mouth smile, Peskov displays a dramatically prolonged blink. Initially, his eyelids close.

16/ Then we see his eyebrows elevate dramatically — along with an elevated forehead contraction throughout its entire width. Simultaneously, Peskov blushes — and fights hard to suppress a sincere smile.

17/ In this context, Peskov's body language cluster of:

• Suppression of a sincere smile
• Blushing
• Eyelid closure
• Elevated forehead

— are EXTREMELY indicative of Deception.

Peskov is Lying.

18/ It's also profoundly telling that throughout the video, Peskov is NOT looking at the camera.

19/ It's possible he has an additional, external camera associated w/ his laptop, and he was mistaking which one was activated — however, given the fact that he's Putin's professional spokesperson, and he's been interviewed hundreds of times, this is significantly doubtful.

20/ The other explanation for Peskov's nonexistent eye contact is Deception.

21/ There are several forms of diminished eye contact associated with deception — momentarily looking away (usually repeatedly), increased blinking frequency, prolonged duration blinking, eye rubbing, dark glasses, a hat brim, and — as we see here, complete lack of eye contact.

22/SUMMARY: Taken in toto, Peskov's #BodyLanguage, Paralanguage/Statement analysis, & spoken words are Extremely indicative of Deception. Dmitry Peskov is lying when he says the reason for the withdrawing of Russian Troops in the Kyiv & Chernihiv regions was an act of goodwill.
