THREAD: The motive; could the cruelty have been imported here from a faraway land?
East meets West
As the Bill came back to the Commons yesterday, let’s consider the some of the key driving forces behind its ideology. 1/
Yes, Tory MPs have been supporting the Bill, however the lion’s share of the desire and drive arises from both @BorisJohnson being the PM, and the Home Secretary @pritipatel pushing it in order to appease their voter base. 2/
Patel is especially invested as she was charged to deliver the signicant electoral pledge of restricting immigration. However, the question of why Priti Patel as a PoC is hell-bent on pushing the #NationalityAndBordersBill has been asked a lot recently 3/
and as with most questions of this nature, the answer is rarely a straightforward one.
Let’s first recap some the most questionable and heinous actions (or lack thereof) heralding and associated with the #NABB so far: 4/
A) Windrush victims still awaiting compensation, some have even passed away allowing the Home Office to make savings.
B) Clause 9 of the NABB was entered at the last minute just before the initial votes took place (against international law). 5/
C) Introducing Henry IV clauses allowing parliament to be bypassed when implementing new immigration laws.
D) The dangerous and callous pushback policy (against international law). 6/
E) Being dubbed ‘Human traffickers’ for introducing and implementing the #Rwanda off-shoring policy whilst Parliament is in recess (against international law).
Of course this is by no means an exhaustive list. 7/
As you can imagine, @pritipatel has had her fingers in all of these pies, which gives rise to questions of how and why could anyone be so cruel? Why is there a stench of extremism and desperation emanating from her actions and behaviours at this point? 8/
In order to explore whether there is something more sinister behind all of this hostility, we’ll need to join some dots. Firstly, we need to understand who ‘Modi’ is along with his relevance. Modi, Prime Minister of India and leader of the BJP party 10/
is well known for being a Hindu Nationalist. The Hindutva organisation and ideology, which is linked to the extremist group RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) found a home in the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) thanks to Modi. 11/
Here is a video which explains in more detail: 12/
Guess who happens to be a fan, yes our very own Home Secretary @pritipatel, who is described as being ‘A staunch Modi supporter.’ 13/
And further explained in this two part video by @CJWerlemanShow

Part 1 of 2 15/
So far, we’ve learnt that @pritipatel quite openly supports Modi and other organisations with extremist and racist ideologies akin to the Führer’s Nazi Party. Could this have anything to do with the stark resemblance between the new 'anti-Muslim law’ 16/
brought in by BJP and our ‘anti-refguee bill’? India’s Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) became law back in December 2019 and on the face of it, both the CAB and NABB are different from each other, however, neither of them achieves their respective ‘intent’ 17/
which is where the similarities begin. The BJP, says the CAB ‘will give sanctuary to people fleeing religious persecution’ from surrounding Asian countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. As with the NABB, 18/
the CAB has also prompted widespread protests as ‘Critics say that if it is genuinely aimed at protecting minorities, the bill should have included Muslim religious minorities who have faced persecution in their own 19/
countries - Ahmadis in Pakistan and Rohingyas in Myanmar, for example.’ The NABB also targets #refugees of a similar demographic, predominantly Muslims from various war torn countries along with those of African origins. 20/
The BJP also launched the amended version of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2019, which contains resemblances to our Police Crime Sentencing and Courts Bill (PCSC) in that they both impact minorities in their respective countries. 22/
It's quite possible that all these similarities may be coincidence. It might be that the CAB and the NABB just happened to evolve along similar lines with similar objectives and near-identical victims. But in amongst all the conjecture there are truths. 24/
Considering @pritipatel's open admiration for the racist Indian organisations and the parallels of the persecutory Bills, is our Home Secretary emulating the cruelty of a far away land? And what does this mean for us if she is? 25/

As we have all had had time to mull over the extraordinary revelations from last week, we thought it might be now a good time to dissect through some of the issues
This thread will focus on Rwanda in relation to the #PritiPatel deal. 1/
Most of you will have heard of #Rwanda from "Hotel Rwanda" a film that tells a bit about the Genocide that happened in the country in 1994 - in 100 days between April-July - >800,000 Tutsi people were killed in a national Genocide.
Rwanda has been rebuilding itself ever since. 2/
Why is it important that we dissect this deal from the #Rwanda angle?
Well put simply - its because the British gov #BorisJohnson#PritiPatel are deliberately not telling you, if they did, most Britons would be appalled & disgusted at how bad the scheme is for RW & refugees. 3/
[2/19]
Lets first consider the sentiment underpinning this, it is probably best expressed by Conservative MP Bill Wiggin while speaking at the Commons Liaison Committee on Wednesday 30th March, addressing the Prime minister as he outlines in his view the “right” sort of #refugees
[3/19]
In reply to Bill Wiggin’s question, the Prime Minister sighted the #NationalityAndBordersBill as being the solution.
Let’s take a brief look at this dreaded #NABB: When the Bill was devised, it was rushed through into official consideration containing placeholder clauses
Please keep in mind the #BordersBill is back in parliament on Monday, and they’re due to vote on this…
THREAD:
Has the Ukraine crisis transformed Britain’s approach to refugees?
[2/8]
Considering this government won the last election based on their Brexit promise to “take back control” of our borders -
“One of this government’s central ideas is to be tough on immigration and asylum and next week it’ll bring back to
[3/8] #NationalityAndBordersBill , but for now, it’s having to show that Britain is open to the people who need our help”
On one hand the government has been determined to hang on to a visa system which explains why they have been extremely sluggish in setting up their processes
The fee for a child registering as a British citizen currently stands at £1012 and the home office confirms that the cost of registration to be
only £372.
2/6 The remaining £640 is therefore money made above the delivery of the service. Therefore, this level of fees do not reflect the cost of registration. And subsequently, under this government’s watch,
3/6 people have been prevented from accessing the immigration system leading to exclusion and isolation for children who are denied citizenship due to these barriers in their way. Citizenship should be about cost,
‘It creates an arbitrary two-tier citizenship system that any civilised society should be ashamed of!
It demonises & criminalises Refugees and infringes their rights under the Refugee Convention.
Migration is a human right & no human is illegal.
3/8
It targets British people with Black and brown skin, British people from minority ethnic groups, and makes them vulnerable to losing their entire material lives.
But It doesn’t threaten white British citizens this way.
