Real reasons for #conflict are buried in history & intermittently ooze out like hot lava from fissures. #Europe's been an active conflict zone for long born out of a stiff #RomanHangover ever since the #Empire collapsed.#Theopolitics is 1 ingredient in its conflict cocktail
2
Conflict in #Europe has to be understood in that context before jumping in & taking sides. Colonial times afforded no option & the world got involved twice converting #EuropeanConflict's into #WorldWar's. Many unconcerned died. India lost many braves from #Gallipoli to #Siam
3 #Ukraine is the latest in a tiring list & has many players beyond just army & politicians. Eastern Orthodox Church, Greek Catholic Church, Patriarchies of Moscow, Constantinople & Kyiv & that west & east of #Dnieper think differently.. all making up the hidden factors
4
Europe was once single large Geopolitical unit. Within 200 years of transitioning from Republic to Empire at the start of 1st millennia it stretched from Britain to #Levant & across North Africa. But it soon fragmented into bickering feudal units never to unite again
5
But dream of a single #BlueEyedBlondeHairedCaucasian unit remained. "Rome" became an imperial sobriquet. Constantinople was "New Rome" Moscow was "Third Rome" & as geographical annexation became impossible even #EU#NATO seem like surrogate attempts born out of a RomanHangover
6
And that Hangover caused conflict Afterall #Napoleonic wars were one mans dream to rule Europe & #Crimean was the others to take back Constantinople & lets not forget the megalomaniacal dream of yet another leading to a #worldwar..
7
Most European conflicts have been religion infested civil wars. For those who know its easy for them to conjecture who fights where and why and on whose sides. And for those who don't history gives many hints
9
But its best for the world to be prudent, circumspect before getting involved in another European war and give them the space instead to reconcile their Roman Hangover.

And if you want to read about a detailed account of how Europe has been fighting amongst themselves and what are the predictable fault-lines..you can read my article in @SwarajyaMag swarajyamag.com/world/europes-…

1/9 Wasn't expecting my recent article in @FortuneIndia "Balancing Act Of #HigherEducation in India" to become contextual in sad light of an Indian student losing life in a distant European conflict in #Ukraine. A short thread summary & link for those interested @rajeevdubey
2/9 "Augmenting Quality Of Average Institutes" in India is paramount to making India the world's "academic capital". Not only does pedigree qualify us to stake a claim but also at stake is a USD $600 B domestic education market & USD $6 trillion global economic opportunity
3/9 Roughly 5 million students defined as #InternationallyMobileStudents study outside their home country each year of these 7 lakh are Indian students a third of whom go to the U.S. & rest to others & spend close to $13 billion under RBI’s liberalized remittance route

BATTLE OF THE FRINGE ! For long if there was one thing that remained undemocratic in India it was PRIVILEGE. A preserve of few who constituted a #FRINGE that made rules for the billion other. That Fringe seems rattled hence battling & battling hard
2/9 Political fringe is angry. Family pedigree no longer matters & rank upstarts are reaching highest. #Politics has become about boring policy & all that fun about election tourism, headgear & tribal dance seems so distant
3/9 Bureaucratic fringe is angry. Queens English, JNU & Das Kapital are no longer qualifiers for the rusted frame. Keats & Shelly are not appreciated & suddenly accountability is not about juggling accounts & lateral entrants threaten to sully the Sunday club
