If you are disabled, this is the election to ensure you vote. For the first time #ODSP has been a top issue. Your lives, your future is being debated. There are 2.6 million of us in Ontario. You have the power to influence YOUR future. #elxn43 /1
The 4 parties with elected MPPs have laid out their plans for us. Each party has decided whether or not we should live in poverty and how much we should live on. Most candidates have not taken the #1169challenge to say how we can live on their promises. #elxn43 /2
The PCs have reluctantly promised 5% increase that wasn’t in their budget. The Liberals have promised 10% this year, 10% in 2023. NDP 20% this year and 80% in 2023. Greens? 100% this year. The 2020 poverty line was $2214. Only Greens will beat that in 2022. Inflation is 6.7% /3
We know that the costs of everything is increasing faster than we can keep up with. We are barely holding onto our homes. We go deeper in debt. We choose between food, rent, utilities, phone, internet, medications. Things need to change. Now. /4
This election we need to vote. If you are disabled or an ally, we have to look at the options and en masse vote together only for those parties & candidates fighting for us & promising #DoubleODSPNow. 2.6 million #PWD are a huge voting block. We are no longer tokens. #elxn43 /5
This election don’t let other parties or groups tell you to not spoil your vote, or throw it away, because they want you to help them defeat Ford. Instead vote FOR something, someone. Vote FOR your future and for the very lives of many other #PWD struggling on #ODSP#elxn43 /6
Your vote is never wasted. Your vote is powerful. Your collective votes can change our future. I’m not going to tell you who to vote for in this thread, but I ask you to look at who is willing to keep us in poverty & who will pull us out and keep us out. #elxn43 /7
@AndreaHorwath you made a comment about autism finding in the middle of your answer to violence in schools. This is unacceptable. The association keeps the stigma going & it’s factually wrong. #Autistics are way more likely to be the victims in school than the doers. /1
We have been continually fighting for #AutismAcceptance and the understanding that our kids need acceptance & support in schools. Educators need to be trained & supported by programs like @ECHOAutismON that uses a multi-discipline approach to build capacity in educators. /2
Our kids need universal design classrooms where their educational & sensory needs are met. Where they aren’t siloed into “special education” and away from regular classrooms. This exclusion & segregation chips away over time & can effect their mental health. /3
What does the next 3 years look like based on party promises, what Harris gave us in 1996 and the effect of inflation. The effect of not #DoubleODSPNow in 2022 for NDP means they will never hit poverty line & Liberals will never be above Harris rates. #elxn43 /1
NDP still has a chance to fix this. @AndreaHorwath please give us a rationale as to why we must live in deep poverty until end of your 2nd year? Liberals how can you justify continued deep poverty & not even beat Harris’ deep cut rate? PCs unfathomable for anyone’s vote /2
I’m, as a parent, trying to do the next right thing. So I stepped into the unknown - my teens room, to clean it up today. I’ve tried before telling her that love is an open door, but she could never fully do that with all the crap in her room. 1/many... #QuarantineLife#teens
It’s a bit of a fixer upper, that’s for sure. I’ve let it go for long enough. She said she’d do it in summer, but I really never believed her. Once I started cleaning there were things there that had missing for months. 2/many... #QuarantineLife#cleanroom#teens
I thought to myself that all is found, and as I was pleased, I continued on. I know when all is said & done, it could end up looking the same, because some things never change. But if I sense it is returning to its former wretched state, I’ll tell her to show yourself. 3/many..
