I got zero feedback when claiming that #SARS2 is effective climate policy - obvious to anyone who looked in early 2020 but undeniable since Omicron (#SARS3). Here BOE confirms it. Transmission must be stopped (#ZeroCovid).
Read @DonEford’s LongCovid article if you don’t see why.
China shows #zerocovid works. This was always clear for #SARS2 - the West has failed catastrophically in allowing uncontrolled spread & evolution. Since Omicron (#SARS3) we have no choice. “Let it rip” will end society. China scholars, where is your voice?
Where is everyone’s critical voice? Who is organizing meaningful policy advice? h/t China and global governance scholars - @AMFChina@thorstenbenner etc.
Rates of learning are far too slow. Our time to act is running out - not only on climate change policy.
This is self-explanatory. Once long-term damage begins to surface I give it a few years until the people and institutions who failed to prevent, facilitated or even mandated #SARS2 spread will be sued out of existence. The kids will not forget or forgive. Direct climate parallel.
Con gusto. New links to observe how the Arctic sea ice (#BOE) and Greenland ice sheet (#GIS) export fresh cold water to the Atlantic. How long until the AMOC tips and shuts down, accelerating warming and sea level rise?
Systems thinkers, let's use the tools of systems analysis to solve the problems that really matter. The climate clock is ticking, and climate scientists, activists and policymakers are untrained for such complexity. We need to break down barriers to learning and join forces. 😇🙏
I get such questions all the time - here the kind & highly qualified @BernhardSteinb4 (GFZ). Few can even imagine that 3.2°C warming means 7.5°C for us.
@rahmstorf & Co., will we not help? How does only @RogerHallamCS21 tell people what it means - collapse of human civilization?
Some personal feedback if you are a scientist / scholar or would like to share: How has my writing or online presence helped you professionally or personally? More important, how should I change?
Asking for self-evaluation (and some interview). Appreciate any comments or DM 🙃🦄
I tend to integrate the work of others, to bridge some of the vast disconnects in society and policy that are visible only to insiders ; a meta or systems analysis function if you will. - Thanks and credit to @nephologue@ProfSteveKeen and all of you here.
If possible I’ll continue to work on policy and language - in narrative, mathematical & graphical form - to see and change where we are and may be heading.
Tim speaks of the hammer performing work on society. I’ll add @KateRaworth as a huge inspiration for HOW to rework society.
Hi all. Every newspaper must explain this data DAILY. We left the Holocene. We risk returning to stable (hothouse) climate structures that kept Earth 4-8°C warmer than today 15 million years ago (Miocene) or even 55 mya (PETM). People deserve to know. Decarbonize now or never. 😘
We need systems thinking - mental models that reflect our fundamental interconnectedness in a global world, to solve real problems. Else performative governance will continue with fatal results. @bberwyn, with quotes by Jim Skea (IPCC), @ClimateHuman & me. insideclimatenews.org/news/05042022/…
Soundcloud keeping it real. @DeathPanel_ & @fitterhappierAJ are my current #1s for the stage of the tragedy in which authorities think a pandemic ends whenever they are fed up with the nuisance of having to provide public health policy. Do follow for exciting sequels/sequelae! 🙃
This is the single most effective & entertaining LC read I've seen. Here a glimpse because no one will read it in one session - frankly, too crushing if any of it is news to you!
@DeathPanel_@fitterhappierAJ@DonEford Why I share: recently chatted with my empathetic, young, visual-designer neighbor about Covid. Imagine my surprise when, minutes later, she shares that "now that the pandemic is over," the government will make up new things to keep us under control. Expect aliens, she half-jokes?
