Truth - Early signs are often seen in late adolescence (16-19). Very early appearance (before 12) is rare. M

Truth - intelligence and schizophrenia don't have direct connection. When a popular / intelligent young person develops schizophrenia, it makes a big mark in our memory. Hence this misconception.

Children who develop severe physical symptoms of anxiety (body tremor, agitation, crying spells, sweating, poor sleep, nausea, etc) near exams actually have long standing issues with managing anxiety.
These go un noticed and untreated as compensatory mechanism like help from school and parents can contain this anxiety to some extent.
Eventually it unravels. This happens close to so called important exam of 10th std.

I am a doctor in full time private practice since 2000.
Till 5 years ago, I never worried about my patients having my personal mobile number.
Except emergencies and other suitable matters, no patient ever misused this facility.
But in last 5 years (much before pandemic). Especially with WhatsApp, it is gone crazy.
Long multiple messages, unsolicited videos, long audio messages are routine.
Mostly from people who have never seen me as doctor at clinic.
They get number from somewhere and send all personal confidential information, images, videos, reports, etc. and ask - "so what do you think?"
IITs have been truly star institutes of India. Almost all produce occupies highest possible positions home and abroad. And in civil services as well.
Every Indian parent nurtures IIT dream for their children and IIT alumni run coaching institutes also to fulfil that dream.
Intelligent engineers quickly quit their base speciality and enter very lucrative management work in for-profit organisations. Our best brains are well known to make tons of money for investors and share holders. Enriching the whole world in this process.
Why nobody will be happy and everyone will die miserably in the end. #thread

When you develop a complex system for large number of users, it is best to keep it uncomplicated and have NO conflicts in the basic principles that govern the system.
2/n
When conflict is present in basic principles, all components of the system try to get best for themselves AT THE COST OF OTHERS. So everyone ends up unhappy.
Speaking of healthcare, unless building blocks are well fitted and aligned, system will collapse.

Kashmir Files has given us one more opportunity to look at how we react to others' trauma.
This is important skill beacuse as parents we are constantly puzzled by need to give "appropriate" reaction to children's experiences.
Let's see how we can help.
First principle - hear it out.
If you let children talk about their experience without interruption, they will be able to verbalize their feelings and that act itself is helpful as brain finds words to express and contain distress.
Do not ask for justification of feeling - there is never a justification for an emotion. It is a natural reflex.
All explanations are post-hoc justifications. They have no real meaning.
