We're waiting (since April) for the @PoliceServiceNI to answer our FOI on #sexnotgender in searches & crime stats. An @ni_wrn member sent us a policy (SI0321) showing male officers who "ID as women" can strip search females. No exception made for minors. independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/…

@PoliceServiceNI @ni_wrn After the new UK Home Office guidance that forces should record sex based on birth cert or GRC, we asked what was PSNI policy in regards to recording sex of suspects and victims, and suspects right not to be searched by an officer of the opposite sex:

We asked whether the @PoliceServiceNI would be changing policy following the new guidance. They said no, and have now added that it is unlikely that they will. But they have not answered the specific questions regarding searches and statistics.

Our @ni_wrn contact sent us stop and search statistics they found, showing 10 girls aged 12 and under were stopped and searched or questioned from April 21 to March 22. We have now asked for clarification whether adult males can strip search female minors.

@ni_wrn SI0321 says searches may only be carried out by/in the presence of, persons of the same SEX as the searchee, but adds an officer with a GRC can "stop and search an individual of the same GENDER without reference being made to the fact that their GENDER IDENTITY differs ...

We've had no response to our Oct 21 FOI to @NIPrisons on trans-identified prisoners in NI prisons. We sent it to the @Justice_NI, who should have replied by 12 May, but haven't. @politicsIN @AllisonMorris1 @irish_news @News_Letter

In that FOI too we asked about the rights of female inmates or visitors not to be subjected to rubdown searches by male staff who "identify as women" & the rights of female staff not to be forced to perform rubdown searches on male inmates who "identify as women". #sexualassault
