2/ 100k in debt, and a decade of study later, I qualified as a doctor in spring 2020.
To help my colleagues at a time of national crisis, I volunteered to start work early at the beginning of the pandemic.
3/ I contracted Covid in November 2020 after being deployed to a COVID ward.
Inadequacies in PPE left me exposed to a known deadly airborne virus.
Even today, failures in PPE policy continue daily to put the lives and health of UK healthcare workers at unnecessary risk.
4/ Covid is unequivocally airborne, and yet even today, as we enter our third wave of infection of the year, UK healthcare workers are wearing masks which would fail to meet criteria to ride public transport in other European countries.
5/ As infections surge and hospital admissions again rise, healthcare workers who now fall unwell with Long Covid will not be supported, and support for those currently unwell, will end.
6/ Given we know it can take a long time to recover from post viral illness, support for healthcare workers unwell with Long Covid should be extended to allow chance of recovery.
7/ The #NHS is in the mists of a staffing crisis. Those who are not absent with Long Covid are burnt out and leaving in droves. Every effort should be made to support workers to remain or return to work, as we are not a workforce easily replaced. theguardian.com/society/2022/m…
8/ It is shortsighted and morally incomprehensible for UK government to abandon those who provided, and who continue to provide, care to those most in need. @TheBMA@DHSCgovuk@SteveBarclay

1/ “The idea that these men, and now women, have suddenly discovered a taste for decency and respect for democracy, a reverence for integrity, is absolutely outrageous. 🧵
2/ To have sat there silently well he rode roughshod over our most valued conventions, traditions, and standards, while he once again thought it was churlish of us to expect him to abide by the network of obligation that binds us all, is absolutely breathtaking in its audacity.
3/ How bloody dare they! How dare they talk today about the importance of honesty; the relevance of integrity; the necessity of decency.

1/ Thank you, professor Jack Lambert, for increasing awareness of #LongCovid BRAIN damage 🧠; the need for an educational campaign for doctors, employers and businesses; and the desperate need for service renovation. @thejournal_ie 🧵 thejournal.ie/hospital-consu…
2/ He said “So many patients have been told there’s nothing wrong with them and just to exercise more,”
And theres a belief amongst the medical and general community that “…these patients are making up their illness, if they just try harder and be mindful they’ll get better.”
3/ “But the reality is most of the patients I took care of are health care workers who never missed a day of work in their life…They worked long shifts & here they are coming down with Covid from an infection they caught in the hospital.”
2/ You will not be protected if you fall unwell. Long COVID is growing in prevalence and is currently absent of treatment or cure. NHS workers who develop Long COVID will NOT be financially supported. independent.co.uk/news/health/go…
3/ Failures in PPE policy and provision have, throughout this pandemic, placed the lives of health and care workers at risk.
Do not be vaxed relaxed. Triple vaccination and prior infection with omicron #BA1 does not offer protection omicron variants #BA4 and #BA5 - which are currently driving the new wave of infection in the UK. 🧵
2/ #BA5 resists and escapes neutralising antibodies induced by triple-dose vaccination & antibodies induced by prior omicron (#BA1) infection.
3/ Please do all you can to prevent (re)infection. #COVIDisAirborne which means infectious particles are carried in the air we breathe. To protect yourself wear a good-fitting #FFP2 or #FFP3 mask 😷 especially when in indoor public spaces.
1/ Bad advice. Do not be vaxed relaxed. Omicron variants #BA4 and #BA5 - which are currently driving the new wave of infection, - resist & escape neutralizing antibodies induced by triple-dose vaccination & antibodies induced by prior omicron (#BA1) infection. 🧵
