Today allies in the U.S. House introduced the Reproductive Health Travel Fund Act. This crucial legislation will support those who need to travel hundreds of miles for abortion care as access has been decimated across the U.S. following the #SCOTUS decision that overturned #Roe.
Since #Roe fell, six states have made abortion totally illegal and many more have made it virtually inaccessible. People are now forced to travel 100+ miles to access abortion, which increases cost and wait times, and pushes care out of reach for those working to make ends meet.
The people harmed most are those who already face discrimination when accessing health care–particularly Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, young people, women, people in rural areas, individuals in the LGBTQI+ community, immigrants, and people living on lower incomes.
Legislation like Reproductive Health Travel Fund Act is crucial as people will continue to be forced to travel for care as abortion becomes illegal in more states across the country. This moment calls for bold action. #AbortionIsEssential
Needing to travel for abortion care means having to pay for transportation, lodging, childcare, meals + more. These additional expenses can put abortion completely out of reach. Abortion funds work every day to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access.
Leaders from @midwestaccess @ChiAbortionFund @tbafund @janesdueprocess @abortionfundAZ @yellowfund @abortionfunds were essential in drafting this legislation and ensuring that it gives funds and practical support organizations the resources they need to make abortion access real.
You can support people traveling for abortion right now by donating to an abortion fund in your community. Funds are experts at working through the often complex experiences people forced to travel for abortion care have. Donate here: abortionfunds.org

#BREAKING: A state court in Louisiana has issued a preliminary injunction blocking the state’s "trigger bans" from taking effect while litigation continues. This means abortion clinics in the state will be able to continue providing abortion services while the case plays out.
“Today’s decision will allow so many people in Louisiana + neighboring states to continue to chart their own lives & futures. Patients have been terrified that any day these bans might take effect again & they’ll be left with no options...” —Jenny Ma, Center Senior Staff Attorney
“But this ruling means doctors can provide healthcare that is best for their patients, and not be subject to laws that are so ambiguous that they don’t know how they can do their jobs...” —Jenny Ma, Center Senior Staff Attorney

#BREAKING: In a highly unprecedented move, an appeals court blocked a lower court's injunction on a six-week abortion ban in Georgia. This means the state’s six-week ban takes effect today, pushing abortion out of reach for Georgians before many even know they’re pregnant.
A joint statement from the Center, @ACLU, @ACLUofGA @PPSE_Advocates, and @PPFA: “This is a highly unorthodox action that will immediately push essential abortion care out of reach for patients beyond the earliest stages of pregnancy...”
“...Across the state, providers are now being forced to turn away patients who thought they would be able to access abortion, immediately changing the course of their lives and futures. This is horrific...”

#BREAKING: A federal district court in #Arizona has blocked a “personhood” law—one that would grant rights to fetuses, embryos, and fertilized eggs—from being used to criminalize abortion services.
After #SCOTUS overturned #RoevWade, abortion providers in Arizona stopped services, unsure whether the "personhood" law would allow state officials to inflict a total abortion ban on Arizonans.
In 2021, the Center and its partners filed a lawsuit to challenge a harmful abortion ban that put providers and pregnant people at risk of being prosecuted. #BansOffOurBodies #AbortionIsEssential

#BREAKING: We just filed a lawsuit on behalf of the last abortion provider in #NorthDakota seeking to block the state’s trigger ban, which would prohibit nearly all abortions in the state now that #Roe has been overturned.❗The ban is set to take effect on July 28.
If the trigger ban is allowed to go into effect, abortion providers could face a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. #BansOffOurBodies #AbortionIsEssential
Our client in this case, Red River Women’s Clinic, argue in the lawsuit that the trigger ban is unconstitutional under the North Dakota Constitution, which guarantees North Dakotans the rights of life, liberty, safety, and happiness, all of which protect the right to abortion.

#BREAKING: Florida’s harmful 15-week abortion ban remains in effect.

Shortly after a state trial court officially issued an order blocking the abortion ban, the state appealed the ruling, triggering an automatic stay of that injunction under Florida state law.
The law, which has been in effect since July 1, has already had devastating consequences on the health and futures of Floridians by forcing them to continue carrying pregnancies against their will. #BansOffOurBodies #AbortionIsEssential

The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization has OVERTURNED Roe v. Wade, decimating the right to abortion in the U.S. and opening the door for states eager to ban abortion outright. THIS DECISION IS WRONG. #AbortionIsEssential #SCOTUS
“The Court’s opinion delivers a wrecking ball to the constitutional right to abortion, destroying the protections of Roe v. Wade, and utterly disregarding the one in four women in America who make the decision to end a pregnancy...” —Nancy Northup, Center President and CEO
“While public support for access to abortion is at an all-time high, the Court has hit a new low by taking away – for the first time ever – a constitutionally guaranteed personal liberty...” —Nancy Northup, Center President and CEO
