🧵For 4 years we had POTUS obsessed with optics.
Now Biden falls off his bike or fist-bumps a vile foreign leader, and people are horrified. I'm not. 1/
Back in 2012 VP Biden "accidentally" indicated support for LGBTQ rights. Journalists call it a gaffe, but maybe not. Pres Obama was trying to appease both sides. The "gaffe" by his VP gave him the nudge needed to come out in favor of marriage equality. 2/ newyorker.com/news/news-desk…
What if the Mohammed bin Salman fist bump (a Covid-safe handshake) was a careful diplomatic move after weighing all the alternatives and information he has access to. 3/
Our current @POTUS doesn't seem to mind appearing to make mistakes if what he does works. We have a leader who understands his briefings and weighs all actions. Perhaps growing up with a speech impediment has taught him that how he appears isn't as important as what he does. 4/
It isn't all about him; it's about us. How refreshing!
(Well, maybe falling off his bike was bad, but at least he can still *ride* a bike, not just a golf cart.) 5/ theguardian.com/us-news/2022/j…
I suggest we give the guy a break. Let's focus on how we can help him clean up the mess his predecessor left us. Maybe then the media will follow our lead and get back to important things, things that really matter. Who's with me?
