#Prochoice and #Prolife, this is why the #RomanianOrphanCrisis came about. I think we can agree this is not going to happen in the US. "In 1966 Ceausescu’s regime made abortion illegal and each family had an obligation to the state to have at least four children... 1/6
"In a world where 10 eggs, 4 kilos of flour, 1 kilo of meat, and a pound of butter per person was the norm for a month’s supply of food, many Romanian families could not possibly support more than the required minimum quota of children, and that too was done with great effort 2/6
"However, with abortion being illegal, many parents could only keep their first four children and put the rest in orphanages.
Also, during Ceausescu’s reign, frequent malnutrition and low standards of living caused the life expectancy rate to be significantly lower than... 3/6
"in most developed countries. This led to many parents dying at an early age. Hence, many relatives, being as poor as the parents that died, had no choice but to put the surviving children in orphanages. Moreover, the malnutrition of mothers during pregnancy... 4/6
"and the lack of routine pregnancy drugs/medical attention led to many babies being born with birth defects. These unfortunate children would be immediately put into orphanages not only because they would require expensive and unavailable medical attention, but also... 5/6
"because they would be a burden on the family later on in life by not being able to support themselves and the family." web.stanford.edu/class/e297c/tr… 6/6

It's a strawman argument to say #Prolife people don't care about people after they are born. Many of us in the US don't like how the gov spends money and prefer to donate and work more on a local level. Following is a long 🧵of some of what we do.
Most of us donate time and money to causes that aren't specifically anti-abortion. We volunteer in our communities, donate money to churches, charities and non-profits, donate items we no longer need, host food drives and support organized charities such as those following...

"The purpose of human rights is to protect human goods. The very suggestion that it could be good for mothers to set them against their own offspring is an insult to women and a setback to the cause of their dignity." #HumanRights #WomensRightsAreHumanRights
"Abortion cannot be a 'reproductive right', because it has nothing to do with enabling people to reproduce. It is not even merely an anti-reproductive right, because rather than just snuffing out fertility, it extinguishes a life." #reproductiverights #reproductivejustice

@prochoiceforal1 You seem to enjoy making up your own definitions for words. The agreed-upon dictionary definition for forced pregnancy is the one I gave. The agreed-upon dictionary definition of alive is the one I gave.
@prochoiceforal1 How can something "not alive" deliberately do anything? That requires knowingly and intentionally harming.
@prochoiceforal1 “I think we have deluded ourselves into believing that people don't know that abortion is killing. So any pretense that abortion is not killing is a signal of our ambivalence, a signal that we cannot say yes, it kills a fetus.” Faye Wattleton, Former #PlannedParenthood Director
