🧵#OTD - Aug 9, 2001 - a Palestinian suicide bomber walked into the Sbarro pizzeria in central #Jerusalem at lunchtime and murdered 15 civilians, including 7 children, and injured 130 others.
The bomb was packed with nails, nuts, and bolts in order to maximize casualties.
Terrorist Ahlam Tamimi led the suicide bomber to Sbarro when the restaurant was crowded with people eating lunch.
She was captured, convicted, and sentenced to jail by Israel, but freed in the 2011 prisoner exchange deal that saw Gilad Shalit freed from captivity.
A Jordanian national, Ahlam was deported to Jordan on her release and received a hero’s welcome. Unrepentant of her crimes, she became a popular television broadcaster and public speaker, boasting of her role in the Sbarro attack.
@arnoldroth and @FrimetRoth, whose daughter Malki was killed in the attack, continue to lobby the US government to pressure Jordan to extradite #AhlamTamimi in accordance with a US-Jordan bilateral agreement. Jordan has refused to comply.

1. Israel should not cooperate with the UN special commission investigating the May 2021 fighting between #Israel & #Hamas in Gaza. A thread ⬇️
2. The @UN has a long and shameful record of anti-Israel bias. Israel should not subject itself to a kangaroo court that is probing alleged violations of international human rights law with the goal of collecting evidence that could lead to legal action.
3. Israel’s ambassador @MeiravEShahar in @IsraelinGeneva wrote, “There is simply no reason to believe that Israel will receive reasonable, equitable and non-discriminatory treatment from the Council, or from this Commission of Inquiry.”
👉Thread on @amnesty branding Israel an “apartheid” state. The 211-page report amounts to a malicious effort to undermine Israel’s legitimacy and embolden those who wish to see the world’s only Jewish state destroyed. Here’s how #AmnestyLies
1/8
Amnesty traces Israel’s alleged crimes back to 1948 when the State was founded. To be perfectly clear, the assertion that Israel was born and lives in sin is a thinly veiled effort to question Israel’s legitimate right to exist.
2/8
At a time when Jews are the targets of violent antisemitism, Amnesty takes issue with the existence of a Jewish state created to safeguard Jewish people. @amnesty can’t claim moral authority as a human rights organization while denying Jews their basic right to security.

Tensions are running high in Jerusalem and #SheikhJarrah is trending. Be sure to read up before accepting oversimplified explanations. Thread.👇
Sheikh Jarrah is an east Jerusalem neighborhood making headlines. There is a long-running legal case involving the homes of 4 Palestinian families on land claimed by Jewish Israelis, set to be heard by Israel’s Supreme Court on Monday.
A small Jewish community lived in the area before 1948, when East Jerusalem fell under Jordanian control. It's significance for Jews is that it is home to a shrine revered as the final resting place of Shimon Hatzadik, a 3rd century BCE high priest.
A #Passover parable for our times. The Torah speaks of 4 kinds of people who use Zoom:
The Wise
The Wicked
The Simple
The One Who Does Not Know How to “Mute”
The Wise Person says: “I’ll handle the admin feature controls and chat rooms, and forward the Cloud recording transcript after the call.”
The Wicked Person says: “Since I have unlimited duration, I scheduled the meeting for 6 hours—as it says in the Haggadah, whoever prolongs the telling of the story is praiseworthy.”
