Tens of thousands of Americans, U.S. Legal Permanent Residents, and at-risk Afghans are still left behind in #Afghanistan. This includes American veteran #MarkFrerichs who continues to be held hostage despite the Biden Admin’s many capitulations to the #Taliban.
#HumanRights have plummeted in #Afghanistan. Women and girls are still unable to return to school. Former Afghan officials and journalists are also being targeted and executed by the #Taliban. foreign.senate.gov/press/ranking/…
Counterterrorism concerns in #Afghanistan continue to grow. The #Taliban’s harboring of al-Zawahri highlights how it cannot be trusted to hold its commitments. Terrorists held at #Guantanamo have also been released, giving them the opportunity to return to the battlefield.
American credibility with allies and partners has still not recovered after the Biden Admin’s hazardous withdrawal from #Afghanistan. The admin also refuses to accept responsibility for the bungled evacuation. It’s clear it hasn’t learned lessons from this catastrophe.
It’s been a year & we have yet to see any comprehensive reports or policy corrections. The admin should focus on developing a comprehensive counterterrorism plan, safeguarding #humanrights, & creating guardrails on U.S. assistance to prevent direct benefit to the #Taliban.
