My #Sanghi-infested #WhatsApp groups are sharing a story in an obscure California based online magazine (see pic).
Q. Why Now? the last election was in 2019 and the next is not till 2024.
A. To bury the shameful story of the shameful release of #BilkisBano's rapists. Image
The sad and depressing fact is that women have been involved in the unseemly jubilation and public felicitation of the 11 murderers and rapists who have been released.
ndtv.com/india-news/bil…
"Why do women support Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi?" asks the article in fairobesrver.dot.com.

You might equally ask, Whe do you battered women stand by their tormentors?
If that article in fairobserver dot com is taken at face value then it is essentially arguing that the BJP's and Mr Modi's policy of giving women lots of #Freebies has worked electorally. That is by no means a bad thing. But then why did he attack #RevdiCulture?
Sorry, Correction. I meant to write, "Why do battered women stand by their tormentors?"

#India's right-wing #sanghi #whatsapp groups are seeing this message to day.
This series on the State run (i.e. RSS and BJP controlled) TV Channel will allegedly set the record straight on India's freedom movement. Image
here is a promotional video of the kind of stories that the 75-episode series will tell Indian citizens about

It is introduced by the Prof Heerman Tiwari.
In the opening scene in what looks like a Roman Catholic Seminary a man with a cross
around his neck is heard telling his men in stylised Hindi as spoken by the firangi, "India bahut hi prosperous hai, Unke saath trade karo, Hamara King ka yeh order hai, ki jo bhi tumhara ius mahaan yatra par hurdel kare, usko punish kiya jaye" The video then cuts to

It's hard to engage in any conversation with family in India for long before it turns to politics. Despite all the complaints about how bad things are, the refrain is always "There is no Alternative (TINA) - to Mr Modi". "No one else can possibly win 272 seats in 2024'
#MamtaBanerjee is a maverick firebrand, #Kejriwal is a charlatan, #Congress is a spent force, focused on family, other regional parties are limited to their regions - And therefore, TINA.
But look at the divisive policies, the lack of jobs, inflation, I say. "Yes but TINA!!!"
So now you know why there is this extreme relentless pursuit of every opposition leader esp from @INCIndia, the #ED raids, the #SocialMedia abuse and the character assassination.
It is all in aid of creating this entrenched self-fulfilling opinion in the minds of people - TINA.

In deciding Zakia Jaffri's petition the Supreme Court Judges went beyond the questions before them. Not content with simply dismissing the petition, they sought to assert that the PM and HM were innocent and cast aspersions on the motives of the petitioner and her supporters
This is dangerous. It may well be true that there may be malafide intent behind a civil claim or a criminal prosecution. Such suspicions may be backed by evidence in which case it is for the police to investigate and prosecute. But in this case, the SC judges are
Using the prestige of their office to make allegations of intent and motive for which they cannot possibly have evidence. If all they are doing is voicing their suspicions then they are descending from the high ground of judicial independence and objectivity.

On a few of @sanjukta's spaces I've come across a few votaries of #Hindutva. They make a claim that drives me to have a rant. I am a "proud Hindu", they say, and then proceed to make tall unsubstantiated claims. Here's my issue. What does it mean to be a PROUD Hindu?
I can understand the following,
-"devout" Hindu (you spend your day in puja, bhajan, homams, abhishekams and chanting mantras)
- practising Hindu (you have a day job but are a good fellow generally and take part in a puja come it at the end take Aarti and prasad and go your way
-"atheist" Hindu - you were born a Hindu but ove the years youve given up, moved on and become an atheist.
-"militant" Hindu - you do 'battle' at every opportunity with 'militant' religionists from other religions.
But what does it mean to be a "Proud" Hindu?

@gmcuk decsion to "suspend" the Manchester GP Dr Manjula Arora is stupid beyond belief. On Thursday, @parthaskar had this opinion on the matter:
bmj.com/content/377/bm…
But Dr Partha Kar was too soft on the General Medical Council's Tribunal. You can read the full Tribunal decision here:

The operative "facts" that the tribunal determined were
1. On 30 Dec 2019 Dr A telephoned the IT department at Mastercall and stated that Dr B:
a. sent [her] an email telling [her] they would give you a laptop the next time one is available, or words to that effect;
b. promised [her] a laptop, or words to that effect

This day 58 years ago on 27 May 1964 India was cast into a dark pall of gloom and shock when All India Radio (as #Doordarshan then was) announced the death of the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. "The light is out" said The Times of India
In the 16 years or so as Prime Minister of a country that was born amidst the cauldron of a bloody #Partition, he succeeded in weaving a diverse nation of many languages, religions, groupings, political views and opinions into a functioning modern State
He was the ultimate modernist, technophile, scientifically-minded, internationalist leader any post-colonial country could have hoped for. Did he have flaws? Hell, yes! He was a human after all not a God, and thank goodness for that.
