There is a lot going on but spare a moment to think about the fact that 1/3 of Pakistan is under water. Like Pakistan, many poor/developing countries will bear the worst of climate disasters. The global #ClimateCrisis is also eco-racism on steroids.

Why do I say the global #ClimateCrisis is also eco-racism on steroids. ? Because the countries doing the least amount of damage to the global ecosystem will suffer the most from the climate crisis.

As one born on a small island, I have emphasized the disproportionate effect of climate change on small island nations of the Pacific & Caribbean. The fact is, they do the least amount of environmental damage, and they will reap the most deleterious effects of #ClimateChange.

The article I linked to above covers Pakistan but the crisis is global. Countries like Kiribati & Tuvalu, about which I write in my professional work, will be LITERALLY (not figuratively) wiped off the map. We are living IN a #ClimateEmergency. The time for #ClimateAction is now.

"Loss and damage" compensation has been a controversial issue. The world's richest nations said they would earmark $100 billion a year to help vulnerable countries mitigate climate emergencies & adapt to climate change, but they have not met those goals.

At Cop 26, Barack Obama said "I have been shaped by my experience growing up in Hawaii." He agreed that rich countries had “an added burden to make sure we are helping & assisting those less responsible & less able but more vulnerable to the #climatecrisis

I'll end with the words of UN Sec-Gen Antonio Guterres at Cop 26 when he said the planet was "hanging by a thread."

"We are still knocking on the door of climate catastrophe... it is time to go into emergency mode - or our chance of reaching net zero will itself be zero."
