Many people ask - I'm eating what my grandparents ate. They were vegetarians & were (mostly) healthy & slim.
Why do I have #metabolic issues? Why should I change my food?
(I'm referring to šµš§ before the 1980-90s era)
Consider these answers (A THREAD)
šš½
1. NO FOOD MILES & CLEAN EATING
Have you seen them eat from a hotel? Or buy from a shop?
They always ate locally sourced items, home cooked simple meals. Grains, Fruits & veggies didn't have the amount of #pesticides that are found today.
2. SUGARS & TREATS FOR SPECIAL OCCASSIONS
Sugary food, snacks & treats were mainly reserved for special occasions & feasting times. They were NOT an everyday item.
3. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
There was No concept of exercise separately because they were physically active. People would moatly walk, cycle, use some amount of public transport etc.
Most People practiced #Yoga regularly in some form or the other.
4. DISCIPLINED LIFE & ROUTINES
They had routines that were followed with utmost #discipline. Be it eating habits, the way of living, food, etc. Many households had specific food for specific days so that the family would cover all sorts of food.
Many would consider some of these routines boring, food monotonous. But these were what built their resilience.
5. INFREQUENT EATING & REGULAR FASTING
Unlike the past few decades, number of meals were less and fasting was more. This ensured a healthier digestive system. No late night meals/snacks or junk food.
The fasting routines were followed with strict discipline.
6. DAIRY & HEALTHY FATS #Vegetarians depended on #Dairy. Lots of milk, #curd, #chaena ą¤ą„ą¤Øą¤¾, butter and #ghee. No other cooking fats were entertained.
The South had š„„oil & cold pressed sesame oil.
If we can equate our lifestyle to the above, none of us would be complaining of #MetbolicSyndromes of #obesity, #T2D, #pcos, or other new age problems.
It's time to Rethink, Unlearn & Relearn.
