I agree—“most likely we will not be better prepared than we were in 2020” said @Karl_Lauterbach, 🇩🇪 health minister. ➡️“It’s only a matter of time until #climatechange makes more of these outbreaks become big enough that they become #pandemics”. Sobering.
hsph.harvard.edu/news/features/…
2) We are in a “time when climate change is increasing the threat of infectious disease outbreaks. As wildlife habitats disappear, animals are moving closer to each other and to humans, interacting in new ways that create more opportunities for viruses to jump between species.”
3) the G7 has set up a PACT FOR PANDEMIC READINESS of $1.5 billion a year. The World Bank has set up a fund for the pact of roughly $1.5 billion per year, which is a minor investment compared to the expenses associated with a pandemic, @Karl_Lauterbach said.
4) “The costs of a lost opportunity to prevent a pandemic are … mind-boggling,” he noted.
The World Bank is still deciding how the fund’s money should be distributed. Typically, the organization supports specific projects within individual countries.
5) But according to @Karl_Lauterbach, that approach would lead to disjointed, ineffective efforts. Instead, he thinks, investments should go toward building a global public health workforce that is well-versed in key scientific disciplines.
6) “We need a much better grounding of science in our daily policymaking,” he said. “Otherwise, there will be no way that we will master the challenges ahead.”

Heck no. With all due respect, @JoeBiden — you’re wrong. Pandemic is not over. Almost 3,000 Americans are dying from #COVID19 every single week.

A weekly 9/11 is a very big deal. Don’t even get me started on #LongCOVID—wreaking havoc on millions more.
I hope every Democratic Member of Congress joins me in questioning the administration on this. Tell @JoeBiden — don’t revoke #COVID19’s status as a Public Health Emergency. Don’t declare “Mission Accomplished” too soon.
Damnit people… we have seen the “it’s over” dismissive nonsense before. Remember in May 2021 when CDC dropped mask mandate? Remember how many died in the subsequent August-September 2021 #DeltaVariqnt wave and then the Dec-Feb first #Omicron wave??? SMH

ICYMI—the CDC put out a nationwide warning about an outbreak of enterovirus #D68 last week. Between all the DOJ investigations & royal news, you probably missed it. But hospital pediatric beds are filling up with with this respiratory outbreak.
2) Yes, doctors report PICU hospital beds are full.
3) Here is the CDC warning— EV-D68 — a virus that in rare cases can trigger a polio-like syndrome — is circulating. That could presage a surge in cases of acute flaccid myelitis or #AFM in the coming weeks, experts warn.

What’s the trouble with this chart? ⚠️ #COVID19 deaths in England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 among children age 0-9 during the first 8 months of each year—➡️deaths in 2022 are roughly 2x to 3x the deaths in first two pandemic years.

Minimizers who said “Kids are practically immune” should not be trusted
2) If you can’t read the chart data - here they are written out. It’s incredibly striking. And don’t dare anyone try to say “but what’s their risk factors”— it doesn’t matter, kids are kids — kids should not die!
3) Why did this happen? Partly lack of acknowledgment that Omicron being more severe in kids, but also in UK vaccine rollout for kids under 11 were extremely slow (and now even stopped by crazy govts!). And govt misleading that kids immune led to more exposures of kids. So sad.

Ask yourself — have your ever liberated your mom’s 🇺🇦 village from Putin’s army?

Her son Vyacheslav Zadorenko just did. Crying. #StandWithUkraine

I’m literally crying and I can’t stop.

Ukraine has liberated more territory in one week than Russia has captured in 5 months!
Translation by @bilyk_alex:

I knew you'll come, one of my flowers bloomed

I saved all your things. But the house is booby trapped

mommy you look wonderful as usual, I missed you...

I cooked borshch, do you want to have some?

let us unpack, mom.

I knew you'll free me.

SHAMEFUL—Members of Congress can buy and sell stocks with little restrictions. 📌Of those trading stock—**More than half** sat on committees that gave them insight into companies whose shares they reported buying or selling. ➡️18% had potential conflicts!
nytimes.com/interactive/20…
2) “analysis found the House Foreign Affairs Committee, overseeing arms control, had 4 members invested in defense companies. One member, Gerry Connolly, alone owned $498,000 worth of stock of Leidos —a military contractor that merged with Lockheed Martin” responsiblestatecraft.org/2022/04/14/ban…
3) I think the NYT analysis is still too generous. They only count members of Congress as conflicted (18%) if they serve on the committee for an industry. But back room notes passing of stock tips between members still unethical and insider trading if anyone other than MOC!

Ummmm, did I just get body shamed? …for aging with some grey hairs / not being Asian-youthful-skin enough? 🤷🏻‍♂️

But surprise, a pandemic of 15+ million #COVID19 deaths can wear an epidemiologist down too… Too much ‘thinking’.
P.s. I apologize to anyone out there that this epidemiologist has aged somewhat since his 20s. Didn’t you know epidemiologists are just like actors is like Hollywood? …once you’re over 35, studios & journals think your career is like over.

Thanks for everyone’s support. I plan to keep the grey — never used hair coloring before. Also some asked the photo’s backstory… 2 words: Spicy Nachos 👇
