#Russia has no right to a presence in the @UN, neither from a moral standpoint, nor from a purely legalistic perspective. Here is why #unrussiaUN can happen and needs to happen fast THREAD 🧵/1
#Russia has NEVER complied with @UN Charter principles and rules. Maintain peace and security, suppress acts of aggression - this is the opposite of what #Kremlin does /2
#Russia claims to #UN membership through continuity from USSR are groundless. Russia is a successor to the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic, which has never been a UN member. This means Russia should have been voted into @UN under admittance procedure. This never happened /3
#russia never applied for @UN membership, never ratified the Charter. They just changed the name tag. Guess that explains why 🇷🇺 ignores #UN basic principles on non-aggression, respect for human rights, peaceful co-existence of nations. Formally🇷🇺never signed up to any of this /4
The @UN has never voted to admit #Russia as a member, contrary to the express requirement of Article 4 of the UN Charter. The world just watched in silence. This backfired, as the #UN is now incapacitated by 🇷🇺 and is unable to do its main job properly /5
Lawlessness produces more lawlessness. Institutions of the size of the @UN cannot afford rule-breaking and exceptions for some countries. The #russia exception backfired /6
#UN has become a hostage of #russia. 🇷🇺 paralyzed @UN SC and uses veto as a right to kill. For 8 years UN has done nothing to stop #RussiaAggression and failed to prevent mass killings and genocide. /7
#Russia has made the @UN fail more than once. With 🇷🇺 on the Security Council #UN will not be able to do it’s main job: prevent and stop wars. #Kremlin plan is to weaken international security infrastructure and the plan is working /8
In 209 days #Russia commited over 35.000 war crimes, tortured and murdered civilians, raised cities to the ground, bombed infrastructure, including nuclear power plants. #kremlin continues its atrocities in #Ukraine today, with the @UN just about able to be deeply concerned /9
Since 1991 #russia was responsible for 14 wars across the globe. Again all the @UN could do was express ‘deep concern’ /10
Just like in 1990 the West was reluctant to abolish relations with USSR, fearing economic instability and destabilization of nuclear security, the West is again reluctant to end relations with #Russia as we know it today. /1
The West failed to recognize the USSR for the totalitarian institution it was. It failed to see that violence erupted every time central government in #Moscow quashed down national movements and longing of independence of 15 different nations /2
Today the West fails to see #Russia as an empire that wishes to expand. /3
At least 150K Ukrainians liberated in over 300 towns and villages. Almost 4000 sq km of regained land. Brief smiles, strong embraces and so much uncovered pain. What #Russia leaves behind THREAD 🧵/1
Beheaded bodies of #Ukraine military. Shot and tortured civilians. The numbers will be coming in and investigations will follow /2
Looted homes. #Russia military take everything, even underwear. And at the same time they leave their weapons behind 🤦♀️ /3
It’s not just the #Kremlin and the problem is not just #putin. Long-lasting peace will be possible only after #Russia and Russians are reformed THREAD /1
Just like the Nazis, the Russians see nothing wrong in their actions. They see no problem with hating #Ukraine, killing the innocent and murdering POWs /2
80% of #Russia believes tsar #putin acts in good faith and protects russian interests. The Germans believed that too about Hitler and nazi government /3
Putin needs to loose for the war to end. There is no other way! A few points for @EmmanuelMacron and his friends to think about: THREAD/1
Mediation and negotiation are civilized measures reserved for civilized law-abiding members of the international community. Not for Russia 🇷🇺 /2
No justice or penal system in the world is based on talking to criminals. You don’t negotiate with a serial killer. You send out a SWAT team to neutralize him and bring him before a court (if taken down alive that is) /3
I’m concerned with the amount of #Russia propaganda narrative seeping back in to the international discourse. Please mind the following messages thread 🧵:
Don’t arrest/prosecute #putin (at least for a while), as there’ll be no one to negotiate peace with 🤦♀️ really? /1
‘Stop arming #Ukraine for peace’. Oh, I guess then just issue a lot of white fabric for one giant surrender flag and forget the country ever existed. And wait and see who #putin picks next to attack /2
Long term consequences of #Russia aggression against #Ukraine: thread 🧵/1
Ukrainian children are deprived of education as schools are closed because of possible attacks. #Ukraine will no longer be among countries with higher literacy rates /2
Children witnessing war crimes, growing up in basements and under artillery fire will definitely change the psychosocial portrait of our nation /3
