I think ppl underestimate the role of reactivated #Lyme & Bartonella in #LongCovid (many dont know they have either). Lots of focus on #EBV may be missing this. When I interviewed @microbeminded2 recently (released soon) she said, “first things to rule out w LC are Lyme/ bart.”
Lyme and bartonella are common, hugely misunderstood and under-recognized, can lie dormant, patients often asymptomatic, and like Covid, can be persistent.
When they get activated, all Hell can break loose.
. @StevePhillipsMD and I have given many talks & interviews & discussed this. He has seen it in his own patients, treated them after Covid set off their underlying tick-borne infections and they’ve recovered.
This is being largely ignored to the detriment of suffering LC pts.
Here’s a clip of my personal chronic #Lyme nightmare story, which is not actually uncommon and mirrors what #LongCovid patients go through trying to get answers.

😱 OMG. I just consulted @CedarsSinai surgeon for a poss minor, outpatient surgery & he said they don’t test before surgery (only patient tested, not OR staff 🤦🏻♀️) & that they all wear surgical masks.
I asked if I could request they wear N95’s and he said…
“You can request but I can’t promise the team will.”
He said he would.
I asked if team would test before surgery & he said, “No, no hospitals test.” I said yes, some do.
I told him surgical masks don’t work to block #airborne Covid, he seemed perplexed. I am stunned rn.
So, it is not safe to have surgery at @CedarsSinai if you care abt not poss getting exposed to Covid on the operating table.
Go in w a broken finger, leave w brain damage.
Unfuckingreal.
FYI: This is a fancy LA hospital that can afford tests/N95s to protect staff & patients.
I don’t enjoy spending precious time calling out specific people for spreading misinfo if they’re not leading PH / gov response to policy.
But ya know, it’s extremely disturbing that some rando MPH now fancies himself an expert on #Lyme & #LongCovid & mocks them.
And when I asked him not to spread misinfo, & sent an article on the topic by top @DukeMedSchool oncologist @neil_spector who ran a lab studying Lyme & cancer at Duke, he blocked me from commenting & said he didn’t care what Dr. Spector said.
🚨 Health care worker of two decades at major US Hospital told me this memo about KIDS HAVING STROKES just went out to hospital staff and he wants to throw up.
No. This is not normal. He & his colleagues never saw this influx of kids with strokes before Covid ruined the 🌎.
I wish more healthcare workers could come forward and share what they are seeing publicly without fear of being fired or ridiculed by those who are trying to keep a lid on all this.
I am extremely tired of hearing from patients who were misled and ended up very sick/ disabled after “doing everything right.“
They were often misinformed, willfully, by people who knew better. I cannot keep watching this happen.
Whether they were told to “wear a mask,“ and ended up on a ventilator because they were not told which mask to wear, or were promised a carefree life after they got vaccinated/boosted, but still ended up disabled.
It’s not ok to lie to people to get them to do what you want!!!
🔥 Prominent MDs pushing back on Fauci’s disinfo instead of just complaining behind the scenes. 👏🏻
“This ‘annual COVID shot’ is more urgency-of-normal denial of…reality—an attempt to pretend it’s like the flu—to gaslight people [that] it's the flu,” Altenberg tweeted.
“Nasal vaccines, in addition to vax that tackle all COVID variants or even all coronaviruses, are the way forward, Topol & other experts contend.
But so far none are avail in U.S.—belying the statement made this week by @ashishkjha that science has “caught up with the virus.”
“To give a false impression of year-long protection ([against] severe disease and death) with the data in hand is not acceptable,” @EricTopol later added.
