We must complement vaccine induced protection, hybrid immunity and natural immunity with non-pharmaceutical interventions to suppress community transmission. We must!

I've been spending time educating myself about how to deal with #MonkeyPox since there seems to be a serious lack of public health messaging.

I'd like to share the links and info that I've found from govt/health agency sites bc they may be useful to others...

There are several different clades of #monkeypox and according to the WHO, the outbreak we are experiencing right now "West African" clade...…
Monkeypox is considered to be in the "Substance A" category with the exclusion of the West African clade. According to the doc below (found through the CDC's website) the West African clade is less severe than other types of MPX.…

Image from the same article depicting these vaxxed CDC researchers all suited up to do their sampling of rodents in an area with endemic #MPX 3 people dressed in blue gowns, gloves & helmets
From the CDC page on *traveling* to an area where #MPX is endemic "People infected with monkeypox can spread the virus to others through the air when they cough, sneeze, or talk."
..."Clinician Information

When a patient presents to a health care facility with fever and vesicular or pustular rash, a combination of standard, contact, and #airborne  infection control precautions should be applied" #MPX ...2/3

🧵Despite what many people think, outdoor transmission of SARS-CoV-2 DOES happen.

Being outside with others is NOT 100% safe.

I've started collecting tweets from people who contracted #COVID19 OUTDOORS.

PRT and add to the collection with a response if you know of more cases. ImageImageImageImage

Top 100 updates about #MonkeyPox & why I think it has become the biggest outbreak in the last 50 years outside Africa , the earlier 70 are here

And I will start after 70 now in the thread below
71/n Biden finally comments on monkeypox , saying: "It's something that everybody should be concerned about."😢😢. So there is definitely more than we know , it is not everyday that the President comments on stuff. Ctd)

Why I feel we will have a much bigger outbreak of #MonkeyPox & top 70 updates ( we had 50 yesterday ) in the thread below . Let's start by what we already know & then go further

51/n Spain is seriously looking at whether the 80K strong LGBT community get together was a super spreader , they are also trying to find if one of the Saunas ( where gay men go for sex) has been the source , so the consequences are not due to genital spread but congregation ctd)
52/n The problem is its large number of likely reservoirs and things we probably can't entirely avoid including animal droppings : rats, mice, squirrels, shrews, opossums, ground hogs etc . So once it gets into a geographical location #monkeypox will be a tough nut ctd)

Excellent OpEd by @linseymarr & @jljcolorado on the early and persistent confusion around the word "airborne" wrt the pandemic. It's a short overview on the effects of these miscomms across medical & disciplinary boundaries.
Some salient quotes, links (1/)…
2/ “This fundamental misunderstanding of the virus disastrously shaped the response during the first few months of the pandemic & continues to this day. We still see it now in the surface cleaning protocols that many have kept in place even while walking around without masks. …”
3/ “… There is a key explanation for this early error. In hospitals, the word “airborne” is associated w/ a rigid set of protective methods, incl. the use of N95 respirators by workers and negative pressure rooms for patients. These are resource-intensive and legally required.”

AB has abandoned almost all COVID protections already, and decided to go even further and reduce reporting and transparency, with updates only 1/wk. The justification?

It's time. Our two years is up. We're basically safe enough now.
@CMOH_Alberta Mar 8

"We need to be able to hold two realities at the same time – one is that COVID is still a threat to take seriously and the other is that the COVID population risk has been reduced and we can move to seeing COVID as one risk among many."…
"COVID population risk has been reduced"

Reduced compared to what precisely? Certainly the population risk is not lower than the risk at earlier times in the pandemic here.

Shall we compare our performance in Wave 5 to previous waves to determine population risk?

Hastily dropping masks in schools - an easy thing that helps protect staff and kids (inc JKs who can’t get vaxxed, and many eligible kids who aren’t vaxxed) - seems like such a callous, thoughtless “end” to the pandemic. Here’s what my 6 year old said when we discussed it: 1/n🧵
This morning at breakfast, while my husband wrangled the preschooler, I told my 6 year old that on Mar 21, there likely would NOT be a mask rule in his school. I asked him how he felt about it, and what he wanted to do. Because now he had a choice. 2/n
This kid has seen his mommy come home with bruises on her face after 12+ hours in an N95. Two years of this. Our narrative on masks, from the start, has been: “My mask protects me, your mask protects you, our masks protect each other.” 3/n

This has everything to do with $$ Improved ventilation has been spoken about in #Ontario almost from the beginning. @fordnation didn't want to spend the money on #ontarioschools, so they gambled that #COVID could be managed without having to retrofit schools or add #HEPA filters
COVID being #Airborne has been known for over a year, and yet they didn't provide essential PPE to you and your teachers.Testing could have kept you in school, but they chose not to implement a regimented testing system. Any kid born in 2004 who will be eligible to #vote
remember that this govt gambled away your highschool years, your rites of passages, your education, your emotional well-being and your physical well-being because they didn't think you were worth protecting. Show them your worth on June 2nd, 2022. #VoteFordOut2022

The fact that #Omicron doesn’t replicate as much in the lung doesn’t make me feel better. Why? #COVID19 was never just a respiratory disease, that’s its primary mode of transmission. I’m increasingly concerned about what this means for vasculature/clot presentation in particular.
It makes sense to me that a virus would want to improve consolidation ability to be able to spread in higher aerosol concentrations @kprather88

If it either improves its stickiness or causes our secretions/proteins to become stickier I’m worried what that means for #LongCovid/2
It’s also concerning to me that frontline healthcare workers are *already* reporting seeing increased rates of MI, stroke, and PE with #Omicron wave despite decreased ARDS.

I guess only time will tell…

The Dutch government spreading misinformation and showing they have a **completely outdated** understanding about COVID transmission.

There are ZERO proven cases of surface transmission, and @CDCgov has been telling us for a year that it is rare (…)
Transmission is dominantly #Airborne (…), so the DOMINANT message needs to focus on ways to protect ourselves from airborne transmission.
This government misinformation (a problem in lots of countries) won't end until @WHO says VERY LOUD AND CLEAR that #COVIDisAirborne, as they have actually admitted:

1/Big discovery during the pandemic was that the Coronavirus is #airborne: hitches ride in respiratory aerosols that can float a long time & infect from afar. But what do these tiny things look like? Using Supercomputer @ORNL, scientists are finding out🧵
2/researchers created a model of the virus in aerosols from billions of 'virtual atoms'. They also included other molecules & proteins found in these aerosols. They ran simulations using Summit: one of world's fastest Supercomputers @ORNL, a Department of Energy National Lab.
3/scientists learned that the Delta Variant's Spike protein (the part that grabs human cells) behaves differently: it opens up wider than the original virus. This may allow Delta to infect more efficiently. They'll do these simulations with #Omicron, once its shape is deciphered.

Guidance on IP&C for seasonal respiratory infections including SARS-CoV-2

Welcome to the world of SEASONAL SARS2 [does this sound more 'cuddly' to you?] & alternative reality according to the IPC Cell.

Hot on the heels of the new campaign where dCMO @Thomas_Waite states:

'People with COVID-19 release virus particles into the air whenever they speak, breathe or cough & these can linger in unventilated settings.'

Will the IPC Cell sustain the AGP myth?…
Reviewing this on the fly...

'This guidance is intended to prevent transmission of seasonal respiratory viral infections focussing on influenza, SARS-CoV-2, & respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in health & care settings'

Nice tactic: Try to remove focus on SARS2 alone

More FACTS for “as long as it’s not my kid(s) that are effected” types…

Children aren’t supposed to die.

🇬🇧schools, esp 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, are still v unsafe.

Parents are being punished for trying to protect their kids from a highly contagious #airborne 🦠
Unless @nadhimzahawi @educationgovuk take immediate action, #COVID19 will almost inevitably reach every child & will also spread to family members & staff who may be vulnerable.

It shocks me that so many of us keep saying this & STILL no one is listening!
