Roughly a third of the population reports negative health effects from chemical fragrance. This isn't just personal preference of a fringe minority. link.springer.com/article/10.100…
Thanks @SarahSchaferMD for pointing me to Anne Steinemann's study.
This 2018 study by Brian McDonald et al (w/ @jljcolorado) shows household products (like dryer sheets) are 1 of the leading causes of urban #AirPollution, roughly equal to emissions from cars.
@DobryJane or anyone else - what to do about shared dryer?
Nice layperson summary of some of the health concerns re chemical fragrance in a handy pamphlet to share w/ others - w/ refs to documentaries & reading materials for more information. Discusses hazard to #pets as well as humans. ibpsa.com/blog/2022/05/1…
As the battle over indoor air quality & ventilation is ongoing, it's worth noting that these carcinogens & endocrine disruptors are in your workplace & child's classroom unless there's a strict policy against them. Better air filtration helps reduce them, too.
A handful of people have started the hate QTing. I just have to say, if you're an advocate for #HealthEquity but mocking people with concerns about air pollution, including many #disabled people, that's worth some personal work.
What does this have to do with health equity & disabled rights? Adverse health effects from chemical fragrances disproportionately affect disabled subpopulations, eg 75.8% of autistics, 57.8% of asthmatics, & 82.0% of those w/ MCS per this study.
It's pretty striking seeing how many people here really struggle w/ serious adverse health issues from chemical fragrances.
The particular issue w/ laundry is that dryer vents blow fumes into outdoor air, causing issues far beyond the indoor environment where they're used.
Can't find it now, but I saw a comment here arguing for banning all single-use products & I wanted to respond: these policies can also disproportionately affect disabled people. Eg plastic straws
I have to avoid preservatives so I use single-use eyedrops.
An individualistic approach to public health doesn't work - dangerous chemicals that bleed into the shared environment affect all of us. It's very difficult to move to a place where you can escape them. Even where you're very remote.
@formeridealist Gosh, I hear you. And feel your pain with the labor of finding & getting started with docs, getting new dx.
IDK the answer to your question. I like to categorize by body system, then there's kind of an outline of main issues that I can break down into more details...
@formeridealist ... according to doctor's specific questions. With notes for myself on both severity and chronology.
It makes the initial summary easier, which for me usually is something like: I have symptoms affecting mult systems of the body incl digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory...
@formeridealist .. etc, causing disability with significant limitations in most ADLs.
Then I vomit a giant list very quickly of some of the specific symptoms, maybe indicate a little bit on progression, and what's most severe & causing worst impairment now. ...
