On 30 Oct 1990 then CM of #UttarPradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav ordered PAC to fire on Hindus from across #India who had gathered at Ayodhya to demand the liberation of Ram Janmabhoomi. Undeterred, kar sevaks regathered on 2 Nov when they faced bullets again.
Many died. #NeverForget
I was with The Statesman those days and was in #Ayodhya on 30 October and 2 November, 1990.
A sadhu standing next to me on Ram Chabutra took a bullet on his forehead when the firing began. He crumbled into a heap.
All you could hear was the crack of rifle fire and 'Jai Sri Ram'.
Along with other journalists, including Mark Tully, I took shelter behind a dilapidated structure.
When the firing stopped, we stepped out. Ayodhya was littered with slippers and bits of clothing. There were people lying around -- injured or dead.
There was an eerie silence.
1990 now seems a distant past. But memories of 30 Oct and 2 Nov remain etched in my mind.
Sadly Hindus have a poor sense of history, a weakness we see as a virtue.
Those who forget are doomed to suffer again and again. #Diwali is a good occasion for remembrance. #JaiSriRam
Those of us who were witness to 30 Oct and 2 Nov 1990, or were around those days, or remember the horrific firing on unarmed Hindus, can alone fully understand the significance of Modi Ji's visit to Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya on the eve of #Diwali

Indira Gandhi imperiously ordered a journalist working with India Today to 'get out' of the hall where she was holding a press conference during AICC session in Calcutta. He had dared ask a timid question.
Later, India Today and its journalist issued a groveling public apology.
That journalist is still around. Now calls himself 'Independent' and shamelessly plugs for Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Examples abound.
An 'editor' to boot, with a big publishing house, was a co-conspirator in the infamous St Kitts forgery case during Bofors scandal.
The only occasion some spine was shown by some 'editors' and 'columnists' was during anti-Press Bill protest. Rajiv Gandhi threw them a bone by withdrawing the Bill; they went back to singing his praise.
Important.
