Rishi Sunak could provide support for those in need, insulate homes and expand cheap renewable energy.
To help pay for it, he could properly tax record fossil fuel profits.
We are now on our 3rd Prime Minister this year while bills soar and the climate crisis goes unchecked.
Almost 7 million households face fuel poverty this winter.
People with disabilities, people of colour & older people will all feel this more keenly.
Disabled people have on average much higher bills due to mobility or medical equipment they need in their day-to-day lives.
The solutions to the cost of living crisis also help us tackle the #ClimateCrisis.
A proper windfall tax on fossil fuel profits could provide support to those in need, insulate homes, and expand renewables which are much cheaper than gas.
The government must act immediately.
Join these brave activists taking action and help pile pressure on the govt and @RishiSunak.
Tell the PM-in-waiting that #ChaosCostsLives and the next government must deliver a proper windfall tax to keep people warm this winter 👉 act.gp/ChaosCostsLives

This is how we get out of the mess we’re in. @UKLabour's plan to end new North Sea oil and gas, ban fracking & turbocharge renewables is what real climate leadership looks like 👇 theguardian.com/politics/2022/…
Solar and wind are nine times cheaper than gas AND will:
Create jobs✅
Lower bills ✅
Cut emissions✅
Break our dependence on gas markets and fossil fuel autocrats✅✅
This commitment to clean energy is very welcome - and it's thanks to your actions and support.
Today's price cap announcement means millions will be pushed into poverty in October.
That’s why we’ve joined forces with anti-poverty and other environmental groups who are demanding the UK govt take urgent action to keep people #WarmThisWinter
The UK govt needs a plan now to lower energy bills. What they need to do is:
💷Support struggling households
🏡Insulate homes
🌄Rapidly expand renewable energy
❌Stop approving and subsidising new oil & gas fields that won’t lower bills
The average state pensioner will spend *over a third of their income* on energy bills.
Disabled people tend to have higher energy costs.
Where is the government and why isn’t it keeping people #WarmThisWinter?
The latest #IPCC report has just been released, and the message from the world’s top scientists is clear:
We need to urgently tackle our addiction to fossil fuels and industrial meat.
A thread🧵
Fossil fuels are driving the climate crisis and funding Vladimir Putin’s war and other global conflicts.
The industrial food system is taking up vast amounts of land to feed factory farms instead of people, destroying climate-critical forests and threatening Indigenous Peoples.
The report is clear on what the solutions are:
🛢️Dramatically cut fossil fuel use
⚡Cut energy waste
🥩Cut meat consumption
☀️Turbocharge homegrown renewables and clean transport
What’s the UK government’s plastic policy? Dump it on other countries! Less than 10% of our plastic recycling is actually recycled in the UK.
The rest is sent overseas where it’s often burned or dumped, fuelling health and wildlife emergencies.
Plastic isn’t just a problem for wildlife and our oceans, it’s a problem for people too. Local communities near where UK plastic is dumped and burned are developing serious health issues. This isn’t building back better, this is more rich countries exploiting poorer ones. 2/5
According to the UN, plastic waste kills up to 1 million seabirds, 100,000 sea mammals, marine turtles and countless fish each year. As the 2nd biggest producer of plastic per person in the world, the UK must take real steps to cut plastic production. 3/5
