For the first time in many years, an increase has been reported in the number of people falling ill with #tuberculosis (TB) and drug-resistant TB.

In 2021, #tuberculosis was on the rise โ†—๏ธ:
๐Ÿ”ธ10.6 million people fell ill with TB, an increase of 4.5% from 2020.
๐Ÿ”ธ1.6 million people died from TB.
๐Ÿ”ธDrug-resistant TB (DR-TB) increased by 3%, with 450 000 new cases of rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB).

Last year there were challenges in providing TB treatment and services. This resulted in many people going undiagnosed and untreated.

Newly-diagnosed people living with TB is below the pre #COVID19 pandemic level.

The number of people provided with treatment for RR-TB and multidrug-resistant #tuberculosis (MDR-TB) has also declined.

Last year, the number of people that started RR-TB treatment was 161 746. That is 1 in 3 of those in need.
