In 2021, #tuberculosis was on the rise โ๏ธ:
๐ธ10.6 million people fell ill with TB, an increase of 4.5% from 2020.
๐ธ1.6 million people died from TB.
๐ธDrug-resistant TB (DR-TB) increased by 3%, with 450 000 new cases of rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB).
This is what we need to #EndTB:
๐ซRestore access to essential TB services
โ๏ธIncrease investments in #tuberculosis
โ Address broader socioeconomic determinants influencing TB epidemic
๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ฌAdvance TB research & innovation
๐Diagnostics
๐Drugs
๐Vaccines
โก๏ธ The good news: TB preventive treatment for people living with #HIV has far surpassed the global target of 6 million between 2018-2022, reaching more than 10 million in only 4 years.
If countries fail to step up efforts on safe drinking water and hygiene, we will continue to live with diseases like:
๐บdiarrhoea
๐บcholera
๐บtyphoid
๐บhepatitis A
