His dad had hunch that docs were missing something important & began reviewing literature.
He presented MDs w his findings of infection-mediated illness #PANS.
MDs wrongly dismissed him, insisted it was psychiatric.
Dad was right.
His research led him to the work of brilliant Dr Ed Breitschwerdt from @NCStateVetMed , 🌍 leading expert on bartonella, who I interviewed last week (will post link).
He contacted Dr B whose lab found bartonella in his blood.
He began treating under the care of bartonella expert MD/ researcher Dr Robert Mozeyeni, who gave him a multitude of antimicrobials & antibiotics.
He fully recovered & is now a sophomore getting straight-A’s in a terrific college.
Many kids diagnosed with #PANS & #PANDAS are ultimately found to have infections like #Lyme#bartonella#Strep that are causing their symptoms.
It is commonly the case that these infections are only discovered after parents push for better answers & psych meds fail.
This case was written up a few years ago and got a lot of press.
However, it is not as uncommon as you may think.
What is common is that psych symptoms are often infectious and most docs miss that part & throw psych drugs at ppl without evaluating for neuro infections.
Can not more highly rec you read the article in the first tweet by @krisnewby. It may very well save someone you love.
Of note, #bartonella is also an infection many of us are seeing underlying #LongCovid.
In the words of @StevePhillipsMD: “A randomized control study evaluating vectorborne infections and treating them would be potentially game-changing when it comes to #LongCovid.”
I have always felt that calling this virus “Covid“ instead of SARS2 was a deliberate attempt to minimize the fact that it is indeed SARS; Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
Language & semantics inform the public’s behavior & understanding.
Just as “everyone” knew COVID was airborne from the beginning, they also knew there was no data demonstrating vaccines blocked transmission or acquisition of infection.
Anyone who mentioned this got a lotta shit but it was OBVIOUSLY important & no one shld have lied abt it! 👇🏼
Why was this information critical? Because people did not understand they needed extra layers of protection to BLOCK infection.
Now, millions more have #LongCovid as they WERE TOLD they were protected by the vaccines.
It’s a crime against humanity.
The vaccines provide minimal protection against chronic, often incapacitating illness which can affect every system and organ in the body, from heart to brain to lungs.
If you are someone who cares about avoiding this, wouldn’t you have wanted to know the risk?
😱 OMG. I just consulted @CedarsSinai surgeon for a poss minor, outpatient surgery & he said they don’t test before surgery (only patient tested, not OR staff 🤦🏻♀️) & that they all wear surgical masks.
I asked if I could request they wear N95’s and he said…
“You can request but I can’t promise the team will.”
He said he would.
I asked if team would test before surgery & he said, “No, no hospitals test.” I said yes, some do.
I told him surgical masks don’t work to block #airborne Covid, he seemed perplexed. I am stunned rn.
So, it is not safe to have surgery at @CedarsSinai if you care abt not poss getting exposed to Covid on the operating table.
Go in w a broken finger, leave w brain damage.
Unfuckingreal.
FYI: This is a fancy LA hospital that can afford tests/N95s to protect staff & patients.
I don’t enjoy spending precious time calling out specific people for spreading misinfo if they’re not leading PH / gov response to policy.
But ya know, it’s extremely disturbing that some rando MPH now fancies himself an expert on #Lyme & #LongCovid & mocks them.
And when I asked him not to spread misinfo, & sent an article on the topic by top @DukeMedSchool oncologist @neil_spector who ran a lab studying Lyme & cancer at Duke, he blocked me from commenting & said he didn’t care what Dr. Spector said.
