/ Only 8 complete chariots, & 1 chariot cab, have survived from the Late Bronze age among several civilizations that had them. All these come from 18th Dynasty Egypt, 6 of them from Tutankhamun's tomb
/ These chariots are not merely beautiful, they are amazing examples of ancient engineering technology reflecting 200 years of chariot evolution during the Eighteenth Dynasty #arqueologia#arkeoloji#археологія#arkeologi#археология
/ The wheels are mounted on axles that are much wider than the cab, giving the chariots great maneuverability.
/ The sidings are rigid & embellished with decoration showing the king's domination over Egypt's foreign enemies
/ Scenes of bound enemy rulers on the inside of one of the state chariots.
/ detail showing the gold foil & inlays on the exterior of one of the state chariots
/ The cab is shallow, leaving barely enough room for two passangers, the king and his driver. The axle is mounted at the back of the cab, giving the vehicle more stability
/ Figures of the lion-dwarf god Bes on the cab of one chariot gave magical protection to the king
/ Among the horse tack were pairs of blinders.
/ The spindle object called a "cheek rowel" with spikes were attached to the horses' reigns. Pharaohs had stallions, and they could be aggressive. These rowels prevented the horses from biting each other when paired & gave the charioteer more control over the stallions
/ gilded leather horse tack was also found in the tomb decorated with images of warfare & hunting
/ One gold foil harness covering shows Tutankhamun shooting arrows at a target from his chariot
/ Only 2 more days left in my Tutankhamun 100 day countdown to the centenary of his tomb's discovery on November 4th. Tomorrow, the magnificent golden state throne
