Is it fake news that Hindu student #HimankBansal was beaten by Muslim classmates and forced to chant allahu akbar? If not, are leading liberals talking about it? Such incidences of Islamist violence are growing in Hyd. Is this political empowerment for Muslims by Mr. Owaisi?
Do we need to talk about these violence or is it normal to have Hindutva violence countered by Islamist violence as and when Muslims can, depending upon their political and demographic strength? Will liberal Muslims, and career liberals speak before its too late?
@GorwayGlobal Do share your thoughts. I assume it is not fake news. Several other incidents also came from Hyd in recent years. Inter-faith couples been harassed by Muslim groups. Are these fringes? Are leading liberals speaking up about these? I don't follow them, so asking.
I don't have time to go through all timelines but I checked out Zubair and Arfa Khanum, no mention of #HimankBansal so far. These people have no idea how dangerous this hypocrisy is, do they? Maybe they do. Who knows. In my book of sins, hypocrisy is the biggest sin.
Who are Dipasha and Abhishek? Some BJP agents? I mean it seems obvious that these are done by Owaisi BJP together to create the fear of Muslim radicalism, but source?
Saw some reactions. Let me add, yes, Zubair, Arfa, Rana, people at The Wire, NDTV everybody should debate and discuss this case. Don't take sides or scream like Hindutva gang, but discuss. If these are fringes, call out. Call out Owaisi's politics. Silence is just conspicuous.
To RW, no, Hindutva is not a defensive reaction to Islamists. In Indian context there was no threat perceptions from Muslims but created recenty by political Islamists in collusion with political Hindutva. There's BJP-RSS, BD, VHP, there's PFI, SFI, Owaisi, MIM and so on.

Bihar, Gaya distt. Rita Devi, 45 yr woman, attacked by a mob of around 200 and burnt to death on suspicion of #witchcraft. If RSS-BJP, Hindutva groups want India to progress and be Vishwaguru, shoudn't they focus on getting rid of these superstitions? All they do is Hindu-Muslim.
Attacks, mostly on women or widows, on suspicion of witchcraft are sometimes reported from remote regions of the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Assam, despite an act which bans witch hunts. NCRB estimates around 2,100 such murders between 2001 and 2012.
Instead of running daily trends attacking this and that business knowledge center teachers on fake Hindu-Muslim issues the likes of @Sadhvi_prachi should focus her energy on raising awareness about #witchcraft#honourkilling#childtrafficking etc. I think right wing will agree.
Feminism in India was pioneered and monopolized by upper caste Hindu feminists of Communist party. They targeted Brahminical patriarchy, Hindu personal laws but remained silent on patriarchy inside Muslim/Dalit community. Gave a misdirection to feminism forever. It never changed.
Today, feminism is non-existent in India. Women's movement is dead. Majority women continue to suffer unspeakable violence, injustices, lagging behind by decades in every field. Meanwhile, women NGOs make money, run one sided narratives, but do nothing for real feminism.
Handful of cunning women have misused every protective laws from DV Act to SHA. So called feminists argued that its ok if women misuse laws due to history of oppression. It didn't help women's cause but gave rise to men's rights activist who hate feminism.
Secularism, liberalism, feminism.. we must speak up against those who are constantly trying to give wrong direction to these issues and giving a bad name to entire movement. Don't let those with vested interests to hijack real issues.
Feminism is not mocking Karwa chauth and respecting Hijab as choice. Feminism is critiquing both but also accepting choice and not force to ban or unban anything.
Mocking how people celebrate Diwali or Dussherrah and posting photos of Biryani and lavish Turkey on Eid Christmas and Thanksgiving is not secularism.
Ram Guha, Tavleen Singh, Nidhi Razdan are some of the biggest Rahul Gandhi haters. They've mocked RG at some of his best moments. Whatever he does they write a nasty tweet or column against him. So what are they saying about #BharatJodoYatra? Let's find out. #Thread
Ram Guha
It seems Guha has finally realised he can no longer pass off as a sane human if he continues to mock RG after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Therefore he has gone silent. Not a single mention of either RG or Yatra or INC on his Twitter timeline since the Yatra launch.
Nidhi Razdan
She has a similar realisation. However not totally silent cos this can't-mock-so-pretend-can't-see will not pass. She shared 3 opinion pieces by other people, 1 nasty piece by Shivam Vij, 2 positive pieces by Ashok Swain and another.
Fun fact, I have never entered a Garba / #Dandiya thing in my entire life. Bengalis have dhunuchi nritya during Durga Puja, at the pandal during aarti and on the day of Visarjan at the river bank. I have done dhunuchi dance but never even seen a #Garba in real life.
Garba is a Gujarati thing and most people outside Guj didn't know it until Phalguni Pathak happened. It was not even depicted that much in Bollywood. Now it is a commercial and fashion activity with companies putting in money in advertising, big halls, DJs are hired.
Commercial Garbas are certainly not religious or divine or anything. Just people dancing. Poor men (could be Dalit, Muslim, poor Hindu) see from a distance cos most of these places are costly. Poor women stay at home, can't even see from distance.
"Life began at 70 for Jagjivan Ram Yadav when he stepped out of Faizabad jail after spending 38 years as an undertrial prisoner without any trial ever."
According to Prison Statistics of India Report 2019 ashocking 70% of Indian prisoners are undertrial. Their crime never been proven. In USA this number is a mere 23.03%. Prison occupancy capacity in India is 4,03,739, actual occupancy is 118% i.e. 4,78,600 inmates.
Number of undertrial prisoners increased at a faster rate between 2001 and 2019 than rate of convicted prisoners. The gap started widening during early 80s. Uttar Pradesh tops the list with highest number of undertrial prisoners, 73,418, constituting 22.2% of total.
