When I joined the NFT craze in September 2021, I was naive.
Finally, I thought, a way for artists to make a good living. A new digital art movement that would propel the creator economy to new heights.
Was I ever wrong…
The reality: 99% of NFT pfp projects are money grabs that deploy wash/insider trading tactics to perpetually pump the floor, and give the illusion of high demand.
None of the big players were here for the culture unless it was the culture of profit.
And that’s fair, money is money and people go where the money is.
Flippers brought the energy required to make NFTs a household term.
Money’s not then problem. There’s something more insidious that still grips NFT culture.
It’s the unspoken rules about who has “made it”
If you don’t sell out in a few weeks you’re considered a rug (degen for we can’t make money off your collection).
The floor must always be up. Floor price is the most important utility, whether we admit it or not.
And if your project doesn’t moon in a few weeks you’ve failed.
The pressure to deliver a manipulated floor price greatly outweighs the need to provide value.
The value comes from the pump, when it -should- come from the utility.
The reality is that most NFT projects don’t have a viable business model…
And no way to stay in business long term besides selling more NFTs. Some will build lasting brands, but most will whither away because of this.
NFT pfp culture ultimately cares very little about the long-term success of a project or its creator.
You’d pay $120 a year on Patreon to support the average creator. but yet complain if the NFT they bought for $120 doesn’t appreciate 500% overnight.
You don’t ever get that $120 back if you decide to stop supporting that artist on Patreon.
And if you keep supporting them you pay even more than the average NFT. And people do that. They pay creators for their work without ever expecting to turn a profit because the value is being delivered.
I still believe NFTs are a tool that creators should use
But I don’t believe in the ridiculous expectations of a culture that is using creators to make a profit. And now putting royalties on the chopping block.
Someone has to be your exit liquidity. Ultimately, it’s the creator that cops all the fallout of a pump & dump system.
The projects that break away from this have a chance to make something real and amazing. And the ones that insist on making NFTs their entire business model will mostly fail.
I’m not here to make the artificial pump my entire game plan.
DragonForge doesn’t belong to that culture. We have found, and will continue to forge, a different path.
It takes times to build an empire. Years.
The only way NFT culture survives and creates long-term viability as a cultural movement…
Is when the people who manipulate the value of collections are outnumbered by people who actually give a shit about creators.

Creativity is the MOST important skill you can have.
If you were about to click away because you don’t vibe with the word creativity, hold up.
People THINK they aren’t creative, but they’re wrong. We all have it in us.
Here’s how to be more creative…
But first I want to start with a story, about a guy named Steve Jobs. You may have heard of him…
Returning to Apple after Pixar, Jobs knew that talking about tech features wasn’t the way to sell computers. That’s why his first computer, Lisa, failed so badly.
To succeed…
Apple had to come up with a totally new marketing strategy.
So Jobs hired a team that would do exactly that. They launched the #thinkdifferent campaign.
Jobs said yes to doing the opposite of what every other tech company was doing.
Why I decided to launch a cryptocurrency/social token called $DGN on the Solana Blockchain, and why many companies & creators will do it too in the future. 🧵 🧵 🧵 👇 #blockchain#cryptocurrencies#DGN#Tokenomics#Web3
The last 10 years saw the rise of social media. The next decade will see the rise of the social token, cryptos launched by creators and businesses that will give them more control in their ecosystems and better opportunities to create relationships with their communities.
$DGN is not a shit coin, or a meme coin. We call it a social token because it’s not DeFi either. It’s more like Web3 Patreon. You hold $DGN and you get more access to me and what I’m building. I have tiers of membership. And instead of paying monthly you only pay once.
GM creative Dragons! We’re phasing out the discord economy and replacing is with $DGN, our own social token. Those of you who have been accumulating discord coins will have first access to some new #DragonForge collectibles, including this beauty!
If not all editions are claimed, they will be purchasable with $DGN once we launch. You have until the end of October to accumulate more discord coins before we remove that feature.
To get the most out of $DGN, you make make a Social Connector account. It’s a software that rewards you for engaging in our tweets. So when you like our tweets we send you some $DGN as a thank you. Future merch and services will also be available through $DGN 👇
DragonForge is a #storytellingnft. More accurately, we’re a brand that uses #NFTs to give our members special access and support.
We’re making an adventure show for teens that adults will love. #DragonForge is not your typical animation, because it is being created by our members
The #story follows a #Dragon named Ember & his friends as they find their way home after a magical pendant strands them in another reality. But what begins as a journey home turns into a quest to save their world…
Ember, Dryden, Kip, Seraphine, and Zora used to be close friends, until they were involved in an accident that changed their lives. As they piece together secrets about the present, they will uncover unsettling truths about their past that will once again test their friendship.
