I hope this will be a lesson to many in the media who extended a lot of false goodwill to the fantasies of rank #conspiracists over the statements of professional virologists just doing their work.

The fact that they double down after being proven wrong is just 🚩🚩🚩

As I said previously, and repeatedly, there is no place in polite society for people who profit from #lies, who push harmful conspiracy myths that expose scientists to harassment, threats, and #stochastic terrorism

Any journalist who still decides to #amplify them is accountable

These people are not credible voices, they are not 'scientific dissenters' who just disagree with the science, and they do not care about evidence nor have any relevant domain knowledge.

They are conspiracy #influencers for personal gain.

And they show it again and again.

So what to do next?

Well, ideally, these people vanish in #shame, but if we have learned anything about the #information age, then it's that #liars will be doubling down by creating ever more #dramatic lies in hopes of more attention & reach (think Trump)

So best is to ignore.

The professional class, from #journalists, editors to scientists to legislators should recalibrate (if they have not yet) their opinion of these grifters and ignore them too

If I see another op-ed where DRASTIC members, Ebright or Chan are quoted uncritically, you can be sure...

...that it will not go down well with scientists and the public who has paid attention.

Platforming proven liars is not only #poison for the info sphere, but it also corrodes #democratic societies.

We all can get fooled, but at some point, we have to learn our lessons.
