#Update Been under the weather the last couple of days. Another weekend, another key launch. A 3-in-1 mission for @isro on Nov 26: #PSLVC54 to launch 7 commercial, one diplomatic & 1 main national satellites.
#Thread to put things in one place, I may not be around tomorrow: 1/n
Last Friday, a private single-stage rocket became the first non-Isro launch vehicle to ever enter the space agency’s spaceport in Sriharikota, which already boasts of 620 launch missions, including sounding rockets (see image/doesn’t include #VikramS). 2/n
This Saturday, the main payload is a satellite for national objectives designed and developed for ocean studies, the Oceansat-3 or Earth observation Satellite-06 (EOS-06). This is part of a series of satellites from Isro dedicated to oceanography and atmospheric studies. 3/n
Among the seven commercial satellites, which will be launched through Space PSU NewSpace India Limited — @NSIL_India, is India’s privately built Earth observation satellite — startup @PixxelSpace#Anand. 4/n
#Anand is a hyperspectral microsatellite which weighs less than 15kg and has a total of 150+ wavelengths that will enable it to see Earth in a lot more detail than today’s non-hyperspectral satellites. 5/n
“Imagery from Anand can be used to detect pest infestation, map forest fires, identify soil stress & oil slicks... Our hyperspectral satellites are unique in their ability to provide hundreds of bands of information with global coverage at a very high frequency… 6/n
…making them ideal for disaster relief, agricultural monitoring, energy monitoring and urban planning applications,” Pixxel said. 7/n
Aside from Anand, @NSIL_India is facilitating the launch of two private communication satellites, Thybolt 1 & 2, (see image) for another Indian startup @DhruvaSpace, and four other satellites (Astrocast) for US firm Spaceflight. 8/n
“All of them are through commercial contracts and together the seven satellites through NSIL will weigh around 50 kg. The four satellites for Spaceflight are being built by Swiss firm Astrocast,” an official said. 9/n
The 9th satellite on the mission is BhutanSat, a satellite for Bhutan as part of India’s diplomacy. Isro had earlier described it as a gift to Bhutan as part of the space diplomacy initiatives put in place by New Delhi. n/n

Space startup @BellatrixAero today opened a new facility in Bengaluru that would expedite the firm's prototyping and rolling out of new models, supplementing its testing lab incubated at the @iiscbangalore. 1/n
This facility is part of the company’s expansion plans that will also see a $76-million manufacturing facility come up near @BLRAirport by the end of next year. I first reported that Bellatrix signed an MoU regarding this ($76-mn) facility with the state government. 2/n
The new facility was inaugurated by @isro chairman S Somanath, who visited the firm’s IISc lab before inaugurating this. Somanath expressed confidence that private sector firms like Bellatrix could address some key challenges in the Space sector and complement Isro. 3/n
Earth observation satellite by @PixxelSpace#Anand will be among seven satellites @NSIL_India will launch as ride-sharing payloads along with @isro’s #Oceansat3, tentatively scheduled to be launched on a #PSLVC54 on Nov 26. 1/n

Anand will be the first privately developed Earth observation satellite to be launched from India and second from the Pixxel stable. 2/n
The firm had launched Shakuntala using a SpaceX rocket in April 2022. Aside from Anand, NSIL will launch two private communication satellites (Thybolt) for Dhruva Space and four other satellites (Astrocast) for US firm Spaceflight. 3/n
Late yesterday, @isro said that the CE20 cryogenic engine indigenously developed for #LVM3 (#GSLVMk3) has been successfully hot-tested “at an uprated thrust level of 21.8 t for the first time”. 1/n
“This will enhance #LVM3 payload capability up to 450kg with additional propellant loading. Major modifications carried out on this test article compared to previous engines was introduction of Thrust Control Valve (TCV) for thrust control,” Isro said. 2/n
Additionally, the space agency said a 3D-printed LOX (liquid oxygen) and LH2 (liquid hydrogen) turbine exhaust casings were inducted in the engine for the first time. 3/n
Indian radar-imaging satellite — #Risat2 — has made an uncontrolled re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere and landed at the predicted impact point in the Indian Ocean near Jakarta. 1/n
The re-entry happened on October 30, at around 12.06am, the Indian Space Research Organisation — @isro —has confirmed. 2/n
“Launched onboard PSLV-C12 in April 2009, Risat-2 weighed about 300kg and had carried 30kg fuel for an initial designed life of four years...." 3/n
An R&D centre & manufacturing factory for #Spacetaxis or #OTVs & propulsion systems for rockets & satellites are expected to begin first phase ops on a 5-acre facility at the aerospace park near @BLRAirport by late 2023. 1/n
The new facility, which once fully operational is expected to be worth $76mn will be established by @BellatrixAero, which signed an MoU with the government of Karnataka on Wednesday. 2/n
“Having a wide range of thrusters designed to overcome challenges associated with incumbent tech by providing better performance, longer life, reduced costs etc, we now aim for large scale production and research facilities,” Yashas Karanam of @BellatrixAero told me. 3/n
As #GSLVMk3 or #LVM3 prepares for its second commercial launch, @isro efforts on enhancing its weight-lifting capacity is gaining pace. I hear that the qualification tests for semi-cryo (SC120) are expected to be completed in a couple of months. 1/n
#GSLVMk3 is India’s heaviest rocket yet. Here’s some perspective: Between May 26, 1999 and Oct 22, 2022, @isro launched 345 foreign satellites, all on #PSLV, which together weigh 9,326.4kg. On Oct 23, 2022, in its first commercial mission, #LVM3 launched 5,796kg. 2/n
Of course, these missions are incomparable given that most of the foreign satellites launched by PSLV were ride-sharing payloads and include tens of small, micro and nano satellites… 3/n
