A Very Merry Hallmark Christmas with #BKDK

Katsuki frowned at his phone. Still no texts. He sucked on his teeth as he scrolled through their previous messages. Inasa should have responded by now; the time difference wasn’t that much. With a grunt, he turned the device over and got back to sketching.+
As the heir to the largest fashion company in Japan, the third largest in Asia thank you very much, he liked to stay up to date on the projects his parents were working on.+
Their summer line was already in production despite it being the beginning of December. So here Katsuki sat, sketching boating looks and swimsuits for the upcoming season. +
His phone pinged, and Katsuki snatched it quickly. His heart skipped a beat when he saw it was only a reminder about his upcoming flight. He and Inasa had been engaged for close to six months, their wedding just under a year away.+
It was supposed to be a magical winter wonderland, all white suits and shining crystals. But things had been…rocky, lately. Inasa’s work had pulled him away, out of the country to oversee the European office, leaving them to figure out a long distance engagement.+
When they first separated, it was phone calls every day and near constant texts. But for the last couple of months, Katsuki noticed a shift in their relationship. Texts became infrequent, calls went unanswered, and Inasa had even started to refuse video chats.+
The fashion mogul hadn’t seen his fiancé in at least six weeks. So after all this lack of communication, he was surprised when he heard from his partner, inviting him to come stay in Prague for a month.+
Inasa promised to show him around the city, visit the Christmas markets, and celebrate the new year together. And Katsuki had been insanely excited, wondering if all this secrecy was because his fiancé was planning some kind of surprise.+
“Hey kiddo, what are you still doing here?” Mitsuki asked, surprised to see her son in the office. “I thought you had a flight to catch.”

“It’s not for a few more hours,” Katsuki sighed and put his phone down again.

“Still no word from your future hubby?” his mother frowned.+
“Nope,” Katsuki grumbled back, returning to his sketches. “Just wish I knew what to expect when I get there.”+
“I’m sure he’s just busy, Baby.” Katsuki flinched but didn’t pull away when she pulled him into a tight one armed hug. He could feel her leaning over his shoulder to see what he was working on.+
“Cute,” Mitsuki hummed. “I see you had Inasa in mind with this one.” She tapped at the boating outfit, the polo and shorts hanging off a muscular frame. He’d even drawn his fiancé’s bright smile onto the sketch model.+
“Can you blame me?” Katsuki snorted. “He’d look hot as fuck in this.”+
His hair was ruffled harshly making him hiss at his mother. “Just promise me you’ll call when you land and when you make it to Inasa’s, alright?” Her eyes, an exact copy that Katsuki had inherited, stared at him knowingly, almost teasingly.+
“Don’t jump right in, if you know what I mean,” Mitsuki winked and he blanched, feeling his cheeks burning with an embarrassed blush.+
“Shut the fuck up, you old hag!” he growled. His sketches were stacked and set aside as he stood quickly. “You’ve convinced me to leave. Not listening to this bullshit anymore.”

“Oi, give your mother a hug at least,” she snapped. “I won’t be seeing my baby for a whole month!”+
“Ugh, fine,” he groaned, opening his arms marginally. She dove right in, squeezing all the air out of his lungs until he was wheezing and shoving her off.+
When Mitsuki leaned back, there were tears glistening in her scarlet eyes. They pooled but didn’t fall. “Be sure to say goodbye to your father before you leave. And call me if you need anything.” She planted a wet kiss on his cheek.+
“Get off!” Katsuki hissed, making a gagging sound as wiped his face.

“Don’t be so dramatic,” she huffed with her hands on her hips. “Okay, now go. Get ready to see your man. You’re my son, so I know you haven’t packed anything yet.” She shooed, herding him toward the door.+
“I’m going, jeez,” he snorted. But as he stepped into the hallway, Katsuki threw a soft smile over his shoulder. “Love you, Mom.”+
“Get!” she shouted, pointing harshly. No doubt, she’d let a few tears spill once he was gone. Neither he nor his parents traveled for long periods of time, and certainly not alone.+
Katsuki knew she was just nervous, but Katsuki rolled his eyes at that thought. He was 25, a full grown adult. He could take care of himself.+
His farewell with his dad went a lot smoother. Masaru was a quiet man, and not nearly as touchy feely as his wife. A short pat on the back and a quick “be safe” was all Katsuki got.

The fashion heir sat in his first class seat, one leg bouncing anxiously.+
He wasn’t afraid of flying, but he’d been working himself up since that morning. And with still no text or call from Inasa, Katsuki was starting to become worried. What if his fiancé forgot he was coming in today?+
What if there was an accident that Katsuki didn’t know about and that’s why he wasn’t responding? He’d even called his office, getting the bimbo assistant who promised she’d tell Inasa he called.+
Katsuki ground his teeth; she probably forgot. The woman had the attention span of a fucking goldfish.+
The flight attendants came around, reminding them to shut off all electronic devices. It was a long flight - about 17 hours, and the thought of being out of reach for that long made his stomach swirl with unease.+
So, when the attendants came around after they reached cruising altitude, Katsuki requested champagne. The bubbly spirit eased the worst of his tension, and after a refill, he was relaxed enough to get some sleep.+
When he woke with only about four hours left of the flight, it was to a rock in his stomach. He felt so on edge, wanting desperately to hear his fiance’s voice, his boisterous laughter. Inasa’s reassurance always eased Katsuki’s nerves.+
He took a few calming breaths, willing his body to relax. He’d feel much better once they landed in Prague.+

He did not, in fact, feel better once he landed in Prague. His phone updated once it was turned on and he’d received a single text from his fiance.

{Inasa}: Sorry, Babe. I can’t be there to pick you up, but a driver will bring you to my place.+
Katsuki sagged, heart clenching in his chest. “Not even gonna be able to see you right away?” he muttered under his breath.

Sure enough, a driver was waiting for him at arrivals, sign in hand. The blonde trudged over with his luggage, unhappily greeting the man.+
Katsuki wished he could have enjoyed the drive more. There was snow covering the ground, the buildings, the trees. It was a winter wonderland, but through his anxiety clouded eyes, the world looked dull.+
Inasa’s home wasn’t what the blonde expected. It was cute…a cozy little cottage on the edge of the busiest part of town. And when Katsuki went inside, using the passcode on the lock that Inasa had sent him, he smiled.+
It was nicely upgraded with stainless steel appliances and shiny hardwood floors. The bathroom was beautiful with a double vanity, heated ceramic tiles, and a separate shower and tub.+
Katsuki was already getting ideas for tonight, especially after he found some lavender scented bath bombs in the cabinets. But his favorite part of the entire house was the brick fireplace. Chopped wood was stacked in the wrought iron rack and he just couldn’t help himself.+
The warm glow of the fireplace combined with the gently falling snow outside finally had Katsuki feeling excited.

He snapped a few pictures to send to his mom, even attaching a selfie so she could confirm he was really there.+
Katsuki called Inasa’s office, getting the man's voicemail. It had that uneasy feeling from before starting to crawl back into his brain. To keep himself calm, he decided to unpack and take a look at the kitchen.+
Surely, his fiance had missed his cooking. Maybe they could reconnect over a warm meal, cuddle on the couch and enjoy the fireplace…his mind went back to the bath bombs in the vanity cabinets. He smirked to himself. Yes, a perfect reunion.+

The table was set, food simmering on the stove. Katsuki’s head snapped up at the sound of the door opening. Butterflies erupted in his stomach and he couldn't keep a smile off his face. He hadn’t seen Inasa in months!+
Checking his reflection in the shiny window of the microwave, Katsuki fixed his hair and hurried to the front door to greet his fiance.

Inasa’s hulking form appeared, bundled in a thick coat and soft looking knitted scarf.+
The blonde practically vibrated out of his skin, tears burning at his eyes at the sight. He hadn’t realized just how much he missed this man until right now.+
“Hi Baby!” Katsuki chirped, running up to throw his arms around his man, not even caring he was covered in snow. “I’ve missed you so much, you big idiot!”

“Katsuki!” Inasa laughed. “At least let me get this damn coat off so I can properly hug you.”+
The door was kicked closed, zipper dragged down hurriedly, and then Katsuki was lifted into a hug, toes barely touching the ground. His arms couldn’t hug tight enough, fingers fisting into Inasa’s dress shirt tightly. It felt wonderful to be back in his arms.+
“Something smells good,” the larger man hummed, sniffing the air appreciatively as he lowered the blonde back to his feet.

“I cooked,” Katsuki grinned. “Figured you could use a taste of home.”+
Inasa grinned and slipped into the combined kitchen and dining area. He lifted the lid on the simmering pot and breathed deep. “It looks great, Kats, but since I had a late lunch, I’m not all that hungry right now.”+
“Oh,” Katsuki deflated. His plans were already going off the rails. “You sure you couldn’t even have a few bites?” Shuffling his feet, he pulled up behind his fiancé and snaked his arms around his middle.+
Katsuki pressed a kiss between his shoulder blades. “It’s just, I was hoping we could catch up over dinner, maybe spend some time laying on the couch.”+
He bit his lip, keeping his forehead pressed to Inasa’s spine. “I saw those bath bombs in the vanity cabinet. I was hoping maybe we could-”+
Inasa laughed, “Oh you found those?!” He turned in Katsuki’s hold, hands heavy on the smaller man’s shoulders. “My assistant gave those to me as a gag gift. I don’t really like the smell of them.”+
The weight of those big hands on Katsuki’s shoulders were starting to feel like restraints. Why was Inasa turning down every one of his suggestions? No dinner, no intimate bath. He hadn’t even gotten a kiss when his man walked in. The blonde huffed, twisting out of Inasa’s hold.+
“Fine, guess I’ll eat by myself,” Katsuki growled, picking up a bowl from the table and serving himself.

“Babe, don’t be like that,” the big man whined. “You just got here. Could we please not fight?”+
Katsuki wanted to tell him he was the problem. He was in a bad mood because Inasa was pulling the same shit he had been for the past two months. But he really didn’t want to start off the night with a screaming match.+
“Sorry. Guess I’m just tired,” Katsuki grumbled. “It was a long flight.”

“Well, then,” Inasa sighed. “You eat, while I shower and then we’ll relax on the couch and catch up. Okay?”+
Katsuki’s heart did a little flip at the promise of at least cuddling. He nodded with a small smile, “Yeah, okay.”+

Turned out he and Inasa had very different ideas of what relaxing meant. Sitting at opposite ends of the couch, the best Katsuki could get in the way of cuddling were his feet resting against his fiancé’s thighs.+
While the big man went on and on about how the business was outperforming all their competitors since he took over the European division, Katsuki was silently stewing, trying so hard to bite his tongue and not start a fight.+
Sure, he knew things would probably be awkward when they first saw each other again. Afterall, it had been close to four months since they’d actually been able to touch each other. He’d just been expecting…more.+
Inasa barely touched him, their hug when he first came home being the most the big man had actually done out of his own volition. Everything else had been initiated by Katsuki.+
And even as the smaller man picked up only every few words his fiancé spoke, he knew there was no substance. Everything was surface level - work, business partners, a restaurant he liked, work, his assistant, more work.+
Nothing about friends he’d made, places he’d seen, how he felt about being away. And when Inasa brought up his assistant for the fourth time, Katsuki couldn’t take it anymore.

“Do you even want me here?” he snapped, pulling his feet away and hugging his knees to his chest.+
His fiance stared at him, slack jawed and surprised. “O-Of course I want you here, Babe.”+
“Could have fooled me,” Katsuki scoffed. “You’ve barely looked at me this whole time. Can’t tell me anything that you’ve been doing unless it’s work related.” He leaned forward, hating how his eyes stung with the beginnings of tears. “You haven’t even kissed me!”+
Scarlet eyes tracked the movement of Inasa’s throat. It bobbed once, twice and then he sighed heavily. “Katsuki, it’s been hard to be apart.”+
“Yeah? So, why aren’t you as excited to see me?” The blonde waved his hands in an annoyed gesture.+
“You don’t answer your phone, barely even text anymore. Hell, you couldn’t take a break in your day to at least meet me at the airport?!” Katsuki was on his feet, pacing across the short length of the living room.

“Babe, please,” Inasa groaned. “I don’t want to fight.”+
“And you think I do?!” Katsuki snapped back. “I was expecting to come here and spend time with my fiancé. But instead, I get picked up by a literal stranger. I come to a home I don’t know, hoping that you’ll show up soon. I’ve barely heard from you in weeks and you don’t even+
have the decency to just be present. That’s literally just the bare minimum, Inasa!” Katsuki pinched the bridge of his nose and shut his eyes tight, willing the pooling tears to not fall. “And you couldn’t even do that. I thought when you+
invited me here, you were going to take time off work, but I get the feeling that’s not the case.” When Inasa stayed silent, he snorted an incredulous laugh.+
They stayed quiet, though the ringing in Katsuki’s ears sounded like an airhorn. Unease sat heavily in his stomach, heart pounding in his throat. He felt like such an idiot for believing that Inasa would change if they could actually stand in front of each other.+
But his fiancé was just as distant, maybe even more so, now that they occupied the same room. When he finally opened his eyes, it was to a stern faced Inasa, staring at his clasped hands. Katsuki’s stomach dropped out his ass at that look, heart pounding into overdrive.+
It was like the universe poured the words into his head moments before the other man spoke.+
“I’ve been seeing someone else,” Inasa told him quietly, eyes still fixed on his hands. “It wasn’t-” he choked on the words and cleared his throat to continue. “It wasn’t supposed to go this far.”+
“It shouldn’t have gone anywhere,” Katsuki whispered, voice hollow and dangerous. “We are engaged. You made a commitment to me. And now you’re telling me you don’t actually love me?!”

“Oh course I love you, Katsuki!” Inasa’s eyes finally snapped to his, dark and upset.+
“Then why?” Katsuki demanded.

The larger man breathed heavily through his nose and broke eye contact, gaze lingering on his hands once more. “I got lonely. It was just a stupid mistake. Made one little comment and then we fell into bed. I swore it would be the o-only time.”+
Inasa shook his head. “But then it just kept happening and I couldn’t stop myself. I’m so sorry. I should have told you sooner.”+
Katsuki swallowed hard. He could barely hear anything over the rushing in his ears. The man he loved didn’t want him anymore. Inasa didn’t love him. The tears that had been pooling, finally spilled over the edge, tracing wet paths down his cheeks.+
It felt like someone had gripped his heart tight and squeezed. And the person who normally could make a pain like that go away…was the one who hurt him. “Who?” Katsuki whispered.

Inasa squeezed his hands together, swallowing before he breathed a name. “Camie.”+
“Your bimbo assistant?!” Katsuki exploded. “Are you fucking kidding me?!”

“Don’t call her that,” Inasa growled. The threat had Katsuki’s eyebrows shooting up into his hairline.+
“I can call that home wrecking bitch whatever the fuck I want!” he spat back. “Fine, if you want your cock sucked by someone who’s got nothing going on behind her eyes, be my guest.”+
Katsuki turned on his heel and stomped toward the bedroom where he’d stashed his suitcase. The door slammed against the wall in his hurry to get inside. “God, of course it’s that fucking slut. How could I be so stupid?!”+
He grabbed his clothes from the dresser drawers and closet, tossing them haphazardly into his suitcase.

“Kats, wait!” Inasa pleaded, shutting the suitcase and keeping his hands on it. “It didn’t mean anything. Camie and I - we don’t have the same kind of connection.”+
Scarlet eyes raged with the fires of Mount Vesuvius. “And what kind of connection are we talking about here? My inheritance?”+
“Don’t,” Inasa hissed. “Talk about me like I’m some gold digger.” He stumbled back as Katsuki shoved him out of the way. “You know I love everything about you!”+
“Clearly,” the blonde deadpanned, throwing more of his things into his bags. “Because that’s what people in love do, right? Make each other miserable?”

“Babe, please,” the larger man begged. “Don’t go.”+
Katsuki threw his hands up into the air. “What the fuck am I supposed to do?! Stay here for an entire month and act like I didn’t just have my heart ripped out of my chest? Pretend that you still love me when I know you’re thinking about someone else? Fuck you, Inasa!”+
He grabbed the ring on his finger and yanked it off. Tears rolled down Katsuki’s cheeks as he screeched and whipped it at the other man. The metal bounced and clinked against whatever furniture it managed to hit. “It’s over!”

“Katsuki,” Inasa breathed. “You’re overreacting.”+
“Excuse me?!” the blonde seethed, harshly zipping up his lumpy suitcase. “I’m what now?”

“Babe, we can work this out,” his fiancé…EX-fiancé said while reaching for him.+
“No,” Katsuki shouted, pulling away. The suitcase banged against the floor when he dragged it off the bed. “I would have been happy marrying you, ecstatic even. But now?” He scoffed and shook his head. “You’re an asshole.”+
“Where the hell are you even going?” Inasa growled, following close behind. “You don't know your way around the city. Hell, you don’t even know the language!”

“I know enough German to get by,” he countered. “You forget I’m fluent in Italian and English, too.”+
“Katsuki, please, stay here,” Inasa’s large hand wrapped around his thin wrist. Where the gesture had once been comforting, Katsuki now only felt disgust.+
“I’ll be fine on my own,” the blonde sniffed, slipping on his shoes and coat. “Not like you cared to check in on me before. Why start now?”+
When Katsuki opened the door, he hissed as it immediately shut again. Inasa was pressing his weight against it, barring him from leaving. It sent a moment of panic shooting through his stomach.+
“Move,” Katsuki ordered, hoping his voice sounded stronger than it felt. He thanked the gods above when the larger man pulled back without a fight. Cold and snow bit at his face when the door finally opened.

“Katsuki, where are you going to go?” Defeat colored Inasa’s voice.+
“I don’t know,” the blonde shook his head, wiping the tears from his face so his eyelashes and cheeks wouldn’t freeze. “But anywhere is better than here,” he growled and trudged into the night.+
TBC ❄️😭

This is probably the most angst you're gonna get in this story. Some other rougher parts later on, but we'll be getting to fluff soon.

Three weeks apart for an international mission wasn’t unheard of for them, but this one had dragged more than usual. Their coordinates had been off by a few clicks, leaving the techs in Katsuki’s ear scrambling.+
