The equivalent of 1 soccer pitch of soil erodes every 5 seconds?
Yet it takes 1 000 years to produce just a few centimetres of topsoil.
Soil is the life support of our food and agriculture, and we rely on soils for 95% of the food we consume.
#StopSoilErosion
On this course, by 2050, 90% of all soils are set to be degraded.
This will put our ecosystems, our climate & food security in jeopardy.
Here are just 5⃣ ways in which @FAO's Global Soil Partnership is stopping soil degradation & improving soil management around the world🧵👇
1⃣ Working with countries to recarbonize soils
Recarbonization of Global Agricultural Soils addresses challenges related to climate change & sustainability by boosting soil health & making them more productive & shock resilient.
Too many people are suffering the domino effects of challenges that know no borders. In the face of global crises, global solutions are needed.
Here are 🔟 ways you can take action for a world where no one is left behind on #WorldFoodDay & beyond 🧵👇
1⃣ Be better informed
If you want to do your part, the first step is to know what is happening in the world. You can read newspapers, listen to the radio, or search for news online, but make sure that your sources are #verified & reliable.
Letters, tweets, posts or emails can be a very effective way of urging decision-makers to act, for example, by asking them to accelerate action towards achieving the #SDGs.
Enough food is produced today to feed everyone on the planet.
You read that right.
The problem is access & availability of nutritious food, which is increasingly impeded by multiple challenges.

These include #COVID19 pandemic, conflict, the #ClimateCrisis, inequality, rising prices & international tensions, & they are threatening our #FoodSecurity.
People around the world are suffering the domino effects of challenges that know no borders.
Our goal is to build a world where everyone, everywhere has regular access to enough nutritious food. A world where no one is left behind.
Ahead of this #WorldFoodDay, we want to share a few inspiring stories of #FoodHeroes who are helping to build a better world for all.
