What’s the difference between the top two ZK Rollups?

@zksync Vs. StarkNet (@StarkWareLtd)

A complete thread 🧵👇

#ZKRollup #zkEVM $STRK $ZKS
@zksync @StarkWareLtd Two of the biggest Layer-2 (L2) solutions that use ZK rollup technology to make the Ethereum network bigger are zkSync and StarkNet.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd 1. Zero-Knowledge Rollups

A zero-knowledge proof or protocol is a way for one party (the prover) to show another party (the verifier) that a certain statement is true without giving away any information other than the fact that the statement is true.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd 2. zkSync Vs. StarkNet

Firstly, let’s quickly summarize them.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd • zkSync

MatterLabs released zkSync V1 to the Ethereum Mainnet in June 2020 as a #SNARK proof rollup protocol. In October 2022, MatterLabs launched first phase of zkSync 2.0 mainnet called ‘Baby Alpha’
@zksync @StarkWareLtd • StarkNet

In November 2021, StarkWare Ltd. released StarkNet, a STARK proof rollup protocol on the Ethereum Testnet. The protocol was released to Mainnet later that month in Alpha version 0.4.0.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd One key difference between zkSync and StarkNet is that they utilize different proofing protocols, called:

• SNARKs (Succinct Non-Interactive ARgument of Knowledge)

• STARKs (Scalable Transparent ARguments of Knowledge).
@zksync @StarkWareLtd The fundamental differences between SNARK and STARK proofs:

• Setup procedure
• Scalability
• Quantum computer attack resistance.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd 3. Differences between ZK-SNARK and ZK-STARK

• ZK-STARKs can also prove 10x faster than ZK-SNARKs.

• However, ZK-STARKs’ one present downside is that the technology is not very mature, which limits its generalizability.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd 4. StarkNet Vs. StarkEx

StarkEx is not a ZK-rollup, but instead is a customizable Layer-2 SaaS (Software as a Service) that uses STARK proofs to provide massive scaling for applications.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd A few key points:

• StarkNet is a general purpose rollup chain
• StarkEx is a toolkit made specifically for applications.

• StarkNet scales Ethereum
• StarkEx scales decentralized exchanges.

• StarkNet allows interoperability between DApps but StarkEx does not.
@zksync @StarkWareLtd It's important to know what makes them different because DApps that use StarkEx are often part of the StarkNet ecosystem, but metrics like TVL are completely different.

Highlights On-chain Data:

• zkSync has $52.97M in TVL, despite not having a token, as per @l2beat
• zkSync is the 3th L2 by Transactions , as per @Orbiter_Finance
• More than 300+ projects which joined in the zkSync ecosystem
• Total Funding Amount: $458M
@zksync @StarkWareLtd @l2beat @Orbiter_Finance StarkNet ecosystem

Highlights On-chain Data:

• StarkNet has $4.61M in TVL, despite not having a token, as per @l2beat
• More than 200+ projects which joined in the zkSync ecosystem
• Total Funding Amount: $273M by StarkWare

[Part 1] Over-collateralized Stablecoin and something you should need to know about it

#stablecoin $DAI #DeFi Image
Over-collateralized Stablecoin is the second most popular stablecoin in the market.

• In order to issue $1 in form of Over-collateralized Stablecoin, users must collateralize an amount of assets with a value GREATER than $1
For example

• DAI is a stablecoin issued by @MakerDAO

• In order to have 1 $DAI in the market, users need to collateralize other cryptocurrencies that are worth greater than the amount of DAI issued (1.2 $USDC for instant)
