Thread about the events around the recent #Twitter suspension of a few journalists. Please do read this and decide for yourself if it's really @ElonMusk who is the villain in this story.
1. Twitter already had a policy about doxxing private info before #ElonMusk took…

@elonmusk …over: Sharing ""home address or physical location info [...] that are considered private"" already was a violation of this rule. 2. Despite this rule in place, Elon said on Nov 7 2022 that he wouldn't ban the account following his plane for the sake of free speech. This…

@elonmusk …is remarkable because
a) Elon's flight data is not public, but the tracker account has engineered a way to aggregate various data to achieve accurate tracking and published it on his account (
@elonmusk …location info" according to the pre-Elon Twitter rules,
c) publishing private real-time location info (= info about private locs apart from public appearances) can indeed pose a threat to the person concerned. 3. On Dec 15 2022, there was an incident with a stalker who…
4/16
@elonmusk …threatened one of Elon's kids in a car. This understandibly made Elon rethink his generous handling of accounts that doxx private location info. Suddenly, the threatening potential of such info was real. He - again understandibly - decides that he needs to be more…

@elonmusk …rigorous with the policy about doxxing private location info in order to protect himself and most of all his family. 4. Twitter revised its "Private information and media" policy and explicitly added a paragraph about real-time location…

…information (help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-p…). This is not a new rule as sharing "physical location information" has already been a violation before. It's detailling the previous paragraph which has been existing for long. 5. On Dec 16 2022, Twitter suspended the flight…

…obviously a circumvention and violation of the anti-doxxing policy, so Mastodon's Twitter account was suspended, too. 7. A #WashingtonPost journo (Drew Harwell) tweeted about the suspension of Mastodon's Twitter account and included screenshots that showed the Mastodon…

…handle of the flight tracker account -> another violation of Twitter's anti-doxxing policy. So, Harwell's account got suspended, too. 8. Harwell's journo friends smelled a story with a lot of enragement & click potential and called for a mass-violation of Twitter's…

…anti-doxxing policy: "EVERYBODY RT the screenshot of the tweet that got the account of Harrell suspended". Some did as ordered, and got their accounts suspended. The disturbing part here is that these journos did not
a) do the research to realize that the anti-doxxing…

…of private location info policy has been existing for long,
b) do the research to realize that Elon's flight data is not public but was engineered by the flight tracker account,
c) Elon's legitimate fear of threats and need of privacy protection and family protection.…

9. The journos' plan came to fruition: Many media ran a hit piece against Elon Musk. Mmh, so much enragement, engagement & clicks - the media love it. Without doing their job (actual RESEARCH!!!), they portrayed Elon as the villain and insinuated he wasn't serious about…

…free speech, abusing his power, creating new rules for his own needs, threatening the free press etc. The facts are: Doxxing private location info has long been a violation against the Twitter rules, and pre-Elon Twitter & Elon should have been more rigorous about it…

…long before. 10. In an attempt to respond to the arbitrariness & abuse accusations, Elon polls the public whether the accounts that violated Twitter's anti-doxxing policy should be reactivated. The majority voted Yes, and these accounts were unsuspended on Dec 17 2022.

So, here's the question again: Who is/are the villain(s) in this story? Elon Musk or the media?

The screenshot in the previous tweet shows the Twitter “Private information and media” policy as of April 2022.
In case you’re wondering why journalist Taylor Lorenz’ account was suspended permanently, here’s the reason:
1) #BMW#i4 M50:
+ enorme Beschleunigung
+ flüssige Bedienung
- Fahr- & Bremspedal sprechen zu schnell an -> sehr ruckliges & unangenehmes Fahren
- Rekup via Fahrpedal eher schwach
- sehr hoher Verbrauch
- Motorengeräusche 🤦♂️ (abschaltbar)
- hoher Preis für nen elektr. 3er
2) #Mini#Cooper SE:
+ geht gut ab
+ gute Rekup
- schlechte Traktionskontrolle (Durchdrehen beim Beschl.)
- erbärmliche Reichweite (183km EPA)
- überraschend kleiner Kofferraum
- störendes Plastikteil für HUD
- Bedienung fühlt sich Old School an
Compared to pre-pandemic year 2019, entire market down by -14%. Only a few manufacturers could increase sales, #Tesla's the strongest with +37%. Ø hit of the players in the red was a whopping -29%, #Ssangyong the biggest victim with -95%.
Comparison of Q4 shows that market decelerated towards end of year: Q4/21 down -31% compared to Q4/19. Ø hit the manufacturers in the red had to suffer was -39%, e.g.
- Audi/BMW -30%
- Ford -50%
- Mazda/Subaru -63%
- Mercedes -35%
- VW -38%
In the 'battle' of the propulsion types, we could see 3 historic events in 2021:
- after May, #BEV's startet to leave #PHEV's behind for good
- in August, BEVs overtook the Diesels
- in December, BEVs overtook the plugless hybrids (#HEV)
A friend of mine is interested in a #Ford#Mustang#MachE GT, so I did some research and learned of the following issues:
- There is currently a recall going on for the Mach-E regarding the windshield and the panoramic roof possibly flying off.
1/5
- Opening doors with phone or keyphob seems to work very unreliably.
- Unstable Bluetooth connection, so that phone-based functions (e.g. music, navigation via Apple Carplay) are often unusable.
- At CCS fast-charging stations, the #MachE charges only up to 80% with…

…fast DC, then it switches to slow AC charging (11kW). This is not adjustable and means that on road trips you effectively only have 200 miles of range instead of the promised 270.
- The #MachE's fast-charging limit of 150kW (DC) is rather underwhelming nowadays, in…

Today, a friend & fellow Tesla owner and I enjoyed a 2 hours test-drive with a #Polestar 2. Great fun 🤩
Our verdict: It doesn’t come close to a #Tesla for a number of reasons, but it’s by far the best non-Tesla #EV we’ve experienced.
What we liked about the #Polestar 2:
- build quality
- hatchback
- good acceleration
- great recuperation on drive pedal incl. #OnePedalDriving capability
- good responsiveness of touch screen
2/8
However, our #Tesla's are or feel better in nearly every aspect, from slightly better till massively better. Here a few examples what we didn't like so much about the #Polestar 2:
- good recup, but weaker than a Tesla
- middle console is huge and takes a lot of room,…

Excl stock-based comp, I estimate a Q4/20 operating profit (EBIT) of approx 1.7b. FY 2020 non-GAAP EBIT would amount to 4.2b.
Comparison with #VW's Passenger Cars division (25 models) 2019:
- 12 times Tesla’s deliveries
- LESS EBIT!
If you compare revenue and operating profit (EBIT) on a per vehicle basis, the difference between #Tesla and #FossilAuto blows your mind!
How would the incumbents profitably sell #EV’s when their current profit margin with gas-guzzlers is only 600 bucks per car???
Note: #Tesla‘s 2020 revenue and EBIT in the 2 tweets/charts above are my estimates. Tesla has not yet reported any financials of Q4/2020 and FY 2020. This will happen at the next earnings call by the end of Jan.
