Izuku stared at the paper in his hand fondly. He was excited. Today was the day he got to vote for his favorite hero.

After the war, The Hero Commission revised the way they handled hero rankings. Now all pro heroes got a say on who belonged on top.

Izuku hummed to himself as he stood in line to submit his choice.

“Hey Midoriya!” Kirishima grinned as he greeted him. “It’s our first time voting! Can you believe it? Who do you think is gonna win?”

“I don’t know!” Izuku beamed as he held his vote to his chest.

“Hawks has been number one for a couple of years but Lamillion’s been doing some amazing things! I think he has a good chance of ranking really high!”

“Is that who you’re voting for?” Ei questioned.

“Oh… uh, I m-mean he deserves it but my vote is for someone else.” He blushed.

“Keeping it tight lipped, huh?” Kirishima grinned. “Wait.., are you voting for yourself?!”

“No!” Izuku laughed nervously. “Absolutely not!”

“I bet you are! Don’t worry man, you’ll definitely be in the top ten as your debut! With One for All, how could you not?!”

“Just cause I have a strong quirk doesn’t mean I deserve to stand up there with everyone! I’m just starting out! I still have a lot to learn!” Izuku nodded his head.

“Spoken like a true top rookie.” A pro hero standing behind them praised. Izuku recognized him.

Maple Leaf. He had a syrup quirk. He was strong and ranked number 100 last year. He wasn’t the most popular hero due to how stand offish he was. But he was extremely handy and other heroes appreciated his assistance.

“Everyone has their eyes on you Deku-kun. All Might’s protoge”

“But still, you’re so humble. You have my vote.” He gave them a thumbs up.

“Oh! Thank you!” Izuku blushed. “I hope we can work together in the future!”

“Absolutely. I’d love to. Unlike another rookie.” He said begrudgingly.

“Hm?” Izuku tilted his head.

“That DynaMight brat. Kid will probably rank high because he’s so powerful. But he’s not humble at all. He thinks he’s the greatest and how exhausting as that? If he’s number one, I’ll retire.” Maple jeered.

“Well then get-” Izuku was about to argue when other pros snickered.

“He really thinks he’s all that, huh?” A woman in front of them flipped her hair. “But he can’t even name himself properly. No one’s gonna vote for someone who can’t even fit on the ballot.”

Izuku’s hands were shaking in anger as he clutched his vote even tighter to his chest.

“Don’t worry about it, Midoriya.” Kirishima squeezed his shoulder tightly and whispered in his ear. “Bakugo doesn’t care for their opinion. There are lots of others who-”

“He has some nerve naming himself after the symbol he himself crushed.”

“HEY!” Eijiro yelled.

“We’re all heroes, huh? We’re all working for the same cause, there’s no need to-”

“It’s okay, Kirishima-kun.” Izuku said calmly as he held him back. “Kacchan doesn’t care for the opinion of heroes who will never reach the top ten, much less the top forty.”

They all shut up after that. The room got so quiet, the only sound Izuku could hear was of Maple scratching his name off his ballot.

After an awkward ten minutes, Izuku heartily submitted his vote. Kirishima followed him out the of room and grinned proudly.

“I’d say you handled that pretty well!” He cheered. “You were so calm, I’m surpri-”

“Where are the votes kept?!” Izuku turned around angrily.

“Oh! So you are pissed off!” Eijiro put his hands up. Izuku was scary when angry.

“Where. Do they keep them?!”

“You’re not thinking of rigging the vote, are you?” Ei smiled nervously. “Bakugo would never accept number one if he didn’t actually earn it.”

“I don’t care! I want to crush them!” Izuku seethed. “Besides, the hero vote only counts for part of the ranking system!”

“Kacchan’s done amazing work this year and I’m not letting idiots who can’t recognize that ruin his chances of ranking where he deserves!”

“Well we can’t do much about the votes once they’re locked away but… if you must, I have an idea.” Eijiro offered.

“Thank you so much for volunteering to help transport these to the vault Deku-San.” One of the commissioners bowed. “People get kind of crazy about this stuff.”

“I’ll make sure no one attacks you Komani-San. Danger Sense will warn me about which heroes we can trust!”

The commission had a fantastic security system but still the transportation of the votes from the table to the vault was rife with possible complications due to the nature of certain pro heroes quirks. Deku was an obvious choice to ensure no one tampers with the votes.

Except for the one factor they neglected to take into account. HE was intending to tamper with the votes!

All Might had taught him this lesson a couple of years ago.

“It is important as a hero to earn the commissions trust! Build a reputation for being honest and upstanding!”

“You wanna know why, my boy?”

“Because they will trust you with more important missions?” Izuku had said excitedly.

“No! So you can get away with anything!” All Might flexed before hacking blood.

“Huh?!”

“The commission… has rules… that are frankly ridiculous.” He coughed.

“You need to be able to get around them the easy way! By doing it right under their noses!”

Despite All Mights advice, Izuku had never been brave enough to break the rules. Until now!!! He was going to show everyone that Kacchan deserved respect!

He furiously went through all the votes and replaced each one that was meant for Maple and that woman hero with a vote for Kacchan. He realized quickly he had nothing to worry about, Kacchan received a lot of votes already. He did too which was surprising but he was in too deep.

He had to continue his mission of crushing those who dared to say those awful things about his childhood friend, his image of victory, his favorite hero and love of his life! No one knew he and Kacchan were dating. They decided to keep it between them and close friends for now.

Izuku knew once it became public, people wouldn’t be so awful about Kacchan to his face. But for now, he had to hear it and contain his rage. But he was tired of containing it, damnit. This was his one way of showing everyone they don’t get to talk about him like that!

He switched the last vote and took a deep breath in satisfaction. He hoped Kacchan would forgive him for this.

“You’re awfully cocky today, nerd.” Katsuki stood by his boyfriend at the new hero ranking ceremony. “Think you’ll actually beat me?”

“I know I will!”

Izuku grinned at him. He knew Kacchan liked a challenge and he wasn’t going to back down from their favorite foreplay even if he knew what the results likely were.

“You two are guaranteed top ten at least. I hope I can at least get top 50.” Eijiro laughed next to them.

He then put his hand on Izuku’s shoulder. “Did you do it?” He whispered.

“Mmhmm.” Izuku nodded subtly.

“Sure must have taken a while writing Great Explosion Murder God DynaMight on all those ballots.” Ei teased and Izuku froze.

Shit.

“Thank you everyone for coming!” The announcer began. “Before we begin, we thank you all for letting us know your opinion on who deserves to be the top amongst your peers. We know none of you take this lightly. Which is why we are stumped this year.”

“Is there a vigilante that we are unaware of? We received a tremendous amount of votes for a hero who is not into our registry. Perhaps this acclaimed hero can stand up and identify themselves. Is ‘Kacchan’ here? Will the hero ‘Kacchan’ please come to the podium?”

Katsuki immediately turned best red before slowly turning to Izuku.

“What the fuck did you do, you damn nerd?!” He seethed under his breath.

Izuku was so angry, so determined, he forgot to put his hero name.

He was absolutely sleeping on the couch.
