Voices from Global South: meet our activists in Tanzania!
SR activists from the Global South are first hand witnesses of the consequences of the criminal policies that produced & keep worsening the #ClimateCrisis, and they are speaking loud against them! (1/7)
Just between October and November 2022, they organized numerous actions and demonstrations to bring Global South voices to the #COP27 table. (2/7)
They protested in the streets of Dar es Salaam with the coalition #UniteAgainstClimateFailure to call out world leaders on their deadly inaction and demand reparation for #LossAndDamage. (3/7)
“For me, what’s incredible as an activist from Global South, is that I was really surprised and disappointed during #COP27 that some of the government delegates didn’t know what the 1.5 limit is” said Shamim Zawadi, an SR Tanzania activist, during an interview at #COP27. (4/7)
Being an activist in the Global South can be difficult & even dangerous, yet SR activists in Tanzania are working tirelessly to bring attention to the impacts of climate change and advocate for action. (5/7)
They are keeping up with their good work every day. After #COP27, activists from SR Tanzania defended Kilwa Island Old Cemetery that’s almost being unearthed by the Ocean. (6/7)
“It seems even the dead are going to soon start paying their price for their contribution on Climate Change », concluded Shamim Zawadi. (7/7)

His hunger strike when the German government either:
1. Recognizes we will miss the 1.5 ºC target; 2. Cancels all financial debt of most affected countries by the climate crisis; 3. Limit highway speed to 100 km/h and extend the 9€ ticket for public transport.
Matthew Wheeler, biohealth scientist previously wildland firefighter and member of @SRTurtleIsland ⬇️ "The wealthy chose ecocide. This is their fault. They need to be held accountable, we need to #BanPrivateJets immediately." #MakeThemPay (2/4)

Today, scientists and citizens are taking action at airports around the world. The economical, climate and social injustice generated by the aviation industry must stop. Here at Berlin's airport, blocking the private jet gate ⬇️ #ClimateEmergency (1/n)
After a protest in the luxury car showroom of BMW's headquarters in Munich, 15 members of Scientist Rebellion have been taken into preventive custody.
To show them support and solidarity during their imprisonment, we are collecting letters to send to them in prison.
It can be incredibly good to sit in a cell for a long time and then hear something from outside.
If it's words of support, affection and encouragement, it's all the better. 🫶

Another scientist, who has been held in custody since October 28th after participating in a road blockade with us, will remain in prison until Nov. 1st .
Marta, History and Arts, "We are on the edge of ecological collapse, we cannot continue with our life as if nothing happened. It is our moral duty to rebel. Join us."
Agisilaos Koulouris, Human Physiology and Chemistry, "I am doing this because I am scared, but also because of love. Love for the people around me, and for the world that we can create. We need to act now."
