Dec. 29: 2022 Year in Review πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ
Top Ten Best Events in Crypto this Year

open.substack.com/pub/curve/p/de…

Our least popular opinion: 2022 was a great year for #cryptocurrency

Here's why, in a convenient Buzzfeed style listicle.

πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡
πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

πŸ”Ÿ@ChickenBonds

The bear market and liquidity outflows forced builders to up their game. @LiquityProtocol's Chicken Bonds executed this perfectly.

An inspired concept. Just the right amount of artistic flair. Fun to watch. Perfection!

9️⃣ Don’t Step on Snek

Python #web3 tooling took exciting steps forward this year.

* Hot @vyperlang Summer
* Rise of @ApeFramework
* Launch of Titanoboa

Check the recent @PyChainConf for hours of videos covering all the development:

πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

8️⃣ @TornadoCash PushbackπŸŒͺ

You may not see the silver lining in blatantly unconstitutional sanctions and the odious arrest of an open-source dev.

Yet we're encouraged by how the community rallied.

We didn't forget.

We forced changes.

Keep the pressure up!

#FreeAlex
πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

7️⃣ Big @VitalikButerin Energy

A good general knows how to rally their troops.

This photo brought joy to a dispirited community, dominating the timeline for days.

Nonstop belly laughs. Lost frens returning from McJobs to join the fun. It never got old.

A+ Leadership! Image
πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

6️⃣ Do Over

Try to imagine the world where @terra_money survived. The toxic influence of "safe" 20% yield. LUNAtic trash talking.

We recognize the pain it caused. Yet we still believe it's an unqualified good $LUNA collapsed, clearing the room for better projects. Image
πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

5️⃣ $crvUSD White Paper

The impending stablecoin loomed large over the year through periodic leaks.

The 0-to-1 concept even lived up to the hype.

What really sold it was the inspired showmanship of dropping it amidst the @avi_eisen / $AAVE event

curve.substack.com/p/november-22-… Image
πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

4️⃣ FraxBP

It's difficult to pick a single "best" event from the @fraxfinance activity... $frxETH, FraxLend, FPI...

Yet the success of FraxBP stands out in particular.

The base pair emerged from the 4pool fiasco to reshape @CurveFinance volume.

πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

3️⃣ @arbitrum Season

How amazing has the L2 performed this year? The $GMX token was nearly the only asset on planet earth to post a gain.

Not only has the stellar year cemented Arbitrum as the epicenter of innovation, it's also fueled the L2 scaling narrative. Bullish! Image
πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

2️⃣ @SBF_FTX Arrested

Worse than any price action this year was brainlet puff pieces penned about the fraudster after the FTX collapse.

It almost seemed the con artist would skate.

Fortunately, the arrest restored a sense of justice and sanity to the universe.
πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

1️⃣ The Merge

It would be difficult to overstate the enormity of the technical achievement, all of which was executed flawlessly.

The #Ethereum Merge was an historic event years in the making. If you stuck around this year, you got to be a part of it. Image
/πŸ§΅πŸ”πŸ”Ÿ

We know highlighting triumphs of the year may be tonally out of step with the current mood.

Just think tho, if this much good happened in a bad year, what might 2023 have in store?

The pros and cons of @avi_eisen becoming a con

@avi_eisen was arrested in Puerto Rico on charges of commodities fraud.

The charges pertain to manipulation of the $MNGO @mangomarkets, no mention of the prior $AAVE incident.

To clear up some misconceptions up front -- some people interpret this be bullish for #DeFi that tokens are being treated as commodities instead of securities.

Dec. 21, 2022: Curve DAO Politics πŸ—³οΈπŸ€
Who sits on the @CurveFinance $CRV / $CVX Iron Throne?
open.substack.com/pub/curve/p/de…

Read on to learn how veCRV and vlCVX democracy works in practice:
🧡1/12πŸ‘‡
🧡2/12

The Curve DAO has unusually high participation among DAOs.

It's also very decentralized, with the bulk of the power to make major decisions about the protocol.

🧡3/12
Most of these votes are uncontroversial, and pass through with little controversy.

The averages for Curve votes:
* 97% support
* 55% participation from 33 unique voters
* Proposal passes

Here are the latest 10 vote breakdowns for gauge votes (30% quorum)

Is it time to get your rear into @GearboxProtocol?

open.substack.com/pub/curve/p/de…

Read on to dig into the recent hype around the leverage protocol...

🧡1/9πŸ‘‡
🧡2/9
Perhaps you noticed the new $GEAR / $ETH pool, which very quickly saw a flood of TVL, putting it right outside the top ten among v2 pools by total TVL.

What's going on? Should you ape?
🧡3/9
Gearbox describes itself as a "generalized leverage protocol."

They're a two-sided marketplace matching liquidity providers and borrowers.

The killer feature is allowing borrowers up to 10x leverage. Sound too good to be true?

December 19, 2022: $REN Ship Ended
open.substack.com/pub/curve/p/de…

$BTC on $ETH is dead. Long live $BTC on $ETH?

As @renprotocol orphans $renBTC, what is the outlook for wrapped #Bitcoin on #Ethereum?

🧡1/9πŸ‘‡
🧡2/9
If you haven't heard, $renBTC is unbridgeable as of tomorrow.

With total supply down ~80%, most users seem to have heard the news.

But ~$20MM remains exposed via Curve pools, which may lead to some turbulence.

🧡3/9
@CurveFinance had previously been a top destination for wrapped Bitcoin. It's laying the foundation for v2.

A new $sBTC / $WBTC base pool has been added. Two pools have been launched against this pool and seeded with a small amount of liquidity.

November 29, 2022: Titanoboa Testing πŸπŸ•΅οΈ
$crvUSD successfully ports Brownie tests into @vyperlang's Titanoboa

open.substack.com/pub/curve/p/no…

Read on to see how Curve reworked smart contract testing from scratch by integrating Titanoboa into Pytest
🧡1/7πŸ‘‡
🧡2/7πŸ‘‡
Among other cool "firsts" from $crvUSD is the use of Titanoboa for its extensive testing.

Traditionally @CurveFinance used @BrownieEth but this is evolving fast. For instance, the new metaregistry upgraded tests to the newer @ApeFramework
🧡3/7
The $crvUSD tests show off how nicely Titanoboa, which interprets Vyper natively in Python, can be integrated into @pytestdotorg.

The conftest needs only a few slight modifications like a line to generate test addresses which would otherwise be imported from ganache. Image

@AaveAave ghosts markets for low liquidity tokens
open.substack.com/pub/curve/p/no…

Why has the lending protocol moving to fortify against future attacks sparked such controversy?
🧡1/8πŸ‘‡
🧡2/8

Last week @avi_eisen executed a strike on @AaveAave, saddling the protocol with bad debt and bad feelings.

The bad debt was manageable, but the AAVE team wanted to move quickly to reinforce the protocol against future attacks.
🧡3/8
AIP-121 quickly passed in response, closing down markets for lower liquidity tokens.

app.aave.com/governance/pro…

The intent is to migrate markets to the more resilient AAVE v3 via AIP-125, a move endorsed by Curve:
